Bethany Christian SchoolMENU
Welcome to our final newsletter for this term. As we head into the Easter long weekend, I am reminded of this central story to our Christian faith. The impact of the life, death and resurrection of Jesus is still celebrated through Easter. We are so very grateful for the way our God has made a way for us to know Him personally and to experience His love, grace and care in our lives. This Easter, I would encourage you to attend an Easter service with your family. Base Church meets in our PAC and have a Good Friday service and an Easter Sunday service at 10am. You are welcome to attend.
School finishes early on Thursday 6th April at 12:10pm to allow those who need to travel on our roads time to get away safely. We will see your children back on Tuesday 11th April for our final week of term which finishes on Friday 14th April at our usual time of 3:10pm.
We have enjoyed a number of Easter celebrations this week with our choir singing a song at Monday Morning Praise, which they will share with families in a special concert later in the year. It was a great opportunity to have a practice run and they did a wonderful job. 6T led the Primary Chapel and 2Z led our Junior Primary Chapel on Wednesday. These were very special times of student led performances. We have included the videos of these for you to enjoy, happy Easter. We also celebrated with an Easter egg hunt and an Easter Hat parade. All of these celebrations create a sense of celebration and fun as well as reflection and gratefulness and I was inspired as we saw student brilliance shining brightly.
We have now completed our Parent Teacher evenings and it was wonderful to see many of you at these events. Our teachers have enjoyed catching up with you and I am very grateful for the opportunity to meet together this term. If you were unable to attend, I would encourage you to make contact with your child’s teacher to make a suitable time to stay informed.
As mentioned in previous Newsletters, we are developing a new feedback platform for ongoing feedback from the school community. It is a way that you can provide feedback regarding issues that fall outside of our usual procedures of speaking with the class teacher or the office. It is also a place for you to provide positive feedback on your experiences. Please refer to the article by Elise Ottens our Social Worker who is working in Community Relations for more information.
We have a pupil free day to start Term 2 and students return after the school holiday on Tuesday 2nd May.
I hope that you enjoy a safe Easter long weekend and then a week later, a restful school holiday break. May God bless you and your family.
God bless,
Wendy Matear
Principal

All your children will have God for their teacher - what a mentor for your children!
Isaiah 54: 13
Welcome to week 9 of term 1. I am constantly amazed at how quickly time is passing! It is so important that we help our children by keeping a consistent bedtime routine, especially now when our body clocks are still set on pre-daylight saving hours.
Typically, our 3-5 year old children require 10-13 hours of sleep per night, our 5-11 year old children require 9-11 hours of sleep per night and our 12+ year old children require 8-10 hours of sleep per night. We all know what it feels like to function on very little or poor quality sleep. We end up feeling tired and irritable, and we find it tricky to maintain concentration. Our children also suffer when they are tired, and then we expect them to concentrate all day at school!
Establishing a calm, consistent routine before bedtime each night will aid them to get to sleep and remain asleep all night, which will help them get up the next morning ready to face the day enthusiastically. Part of this good bedtime routine is winding down at least an hour before bedtime. Reading quietly, listening to calming music or even listening to an adult read to them before bedtime is really beneficial to children. Very often, children take roughly 20 minutes to fall asleep. If you are finding your child takes longer, this may indicate that they need a longer wind-down before bed.
Using technology and watching a screen will actually affect the quality of sleep, and can even cause a person to take longer to fall asleep. Screen time stimulates the human brain, and the blue light tricks our brains into thinking that it is still daylight and will suppress our melatonin levels, causing issues in falling asleep. Technology is also the great temptation, and haven’t we all been guilty of, ‘playing that last game’ or ‘watching a little more’? Technology is a terrific time thief and is such a temptation to stay up later so that we can connect with friends or to play games. None of this is great for setting healthy bedtime routines. Switch off the technology and screen time at least one hour before bedtime. Removing technology from our children’s bedrooms is not a punishment but is just good practice! We don’t want notifications and messages to pop up all night and interrupt our children. Let them fully switch off!
Letting our children be physically active after school will also burn off any excess energy our children might have. This will help them also to drop off to sleep quickly and stay asleep. Remember, your GP can support you and your child if you are finding your child is having difficulties in getting to sleep, remaining asleep, or seems very tired during the day. Our Wellbeing Team is also a readily available resource, and if you think you might need some advice with establishing and keeping a great bedtime routine, please feel free to book a time with a member of the Wellbeing Team. You can contact us using the email wellbeing@bethany.sa.edu.au
Car Park Reminders
Just a quick reminder, please refrain from parking in the Early GoodStart Childcare Centre. Their car park is for their clients only, and these are parents of very little children. Let us make their day a bit easier by not taking up their valuable car parking space.
Please also use our car park wisely and kindly. Speak to each other nicely and be courteous to the other road users. Model safety, care and patience when you are driving around the school, as we share the road and car park with a lot of different people within the community, not just people who attend our school.
SAPOL are fast-tracking a campaign to encourage safer driving as our road toll has been quite horrific this year. Let’s make every effort to keep our students safe by being safe road users.
I wish you all a safe and wonderful Easter long weekend. I pray that as you travel around, whether you are going away for the long weekend or just visiting friends and family for Easter, that you stay safe on our roads. I hope the time with your family is a truly blessed one.
God bless you all,
Deb Clifford
Deputy Principal
At Bethany Christian School, we welcome ongoing feedback from our school community.
We recently conducted a survey with parents regarding the types and frequency of information they receive from our school.
The results were overwhelmingly positive and can be seen below:
We thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with us. We have noted any suggested changes and will discuss potential ways to address these. Moving forward, we have created a new feedback platform for the school community to raise issues that fall outside of our usual procedures of speaking with the class teacher or the office. It is also a place for you to provide positive feedback on your experiences her at Bethany. Please use the following link if you have feedback you would like to give: Parent Feedback Form
Should you have any further questions about this space, feel free to contact me via email at eottens@bethany.sa.edu.au or phone on 8283 0000.
Kind regards,
Elise Ottens

At Bethany Christian School we want to encourage our students to explore their passions. Please read the poem below written by a Year 5 student who wants to become a published author and is currently writing her own book.
The Moment of Truth
we were so desperate
to be separate
but slowly
we became unholy
we needed to rescue
Jesus thank you
we prayed & prayed
and found an aid
to be healed
we needed to find a shield
so the evil
would not touch us
we must
have a bust
so God can heal and we can feel
remember the loss
at Jesus's cross
he gave us a life
it did not cost a dime
I love Jesus Christ
we were unpriced
