Welcome back to Term 2!
We hope you all enjoyed a relaxing break and had the opportunity to spend some quality time with family and friends. It has been wonderful to welcome our students back and see their smiling faces as they return, ready for another exciting term of learning and growth. We are looking forward to all that Term 2 has to offer and the many opportunities ahead for our students to thrive.
This term promises to be busy and memorable, with a range of exciting events planned. Our Year 6 students are eagerly counting down to their camp at Mylor Adventure Park, which will provide plenty of adventure, personal challenge and team‑building experiences. We also look forward to School Photo Day on Thursday, 14th May, a special opportunity to capture lasting memories from the year. In addition, we have a number of SACSA and SAPSASA events this term, where groups of students will proudly represent our school—we wish them every success.
To celebrate and acknowledge our wonderful mothers and carers, we will be holding our Mother’s Day Stall on Thursday 7th May and Friday 8th May. Our Year 6 students will also have a special opportunity to purchase gifts on Tuesday 5th May before heading off to camp. This much‑loved event gives students the chance to choose a small gift to show their appreciation.
We are also pleased to be hosting “Muffins for Mum”, a Mother’s Day event for our Junior Primary mums (Reception to Year 2). Mums are invited to join us for a free coffee and muffin before taking part in a special Mother’s Day activity in their child’s classroom. Please refer to the flyer for further details.
Additional Pupil‑Free Day – Tuesday 21 July
We would like to provide advance notice of an additional pupil‑free day on Tuesday 21 July. This day has been scheduled to allow our teaching staff to undertake further professional learning in Toddle.
We appreciate your understanding and support. Please note that ELC and OSHC will continue to operate and will be available for bookings on this day.
We are excited for the busy and joyful term ahead and ask that you save the date for our Learning Exhibition, to be held on Wednesday 17th June.
We sincerely thank you for your continued support and partnership in your child’s education.
Wishing you and your family a wonderful start to Term 2 and a great week ahead.
God bless you,
Wendy Matear
Principal

Habakkuk 2: 2
Welcome back to all our students and families. We hope everyone enjoyed a restful and refreshing school holiday break and had the opportunity to spend quality time together.
It has been wonderful to see how positively our students have returned to school. There is a terrific buzz around the classrooms and yard, with students settling quickly into routines, reconnecting with friends, and engaging enthusiastically in their learning. We are very proud of the way they have started the term.
A quick reminder that Term 2 is winter uniform. However, if the forecast temperature is above 26°C, students may wear their summer uniform. We kindly ask that uniforms are not mixed — students should wear either full winter uniform or full summer uniform on those warmer days.
Supporting Our Children with Anxiety
Adapted from the work of Mark Le Messurier
As we settle into the new term, it is important to remember that feelings of anxiety are very real for some children, particularly around returning to school and navigating daily routines. Mark Le Messurier reminds us that anxiety is often driven by feelings of uncertainty, lack of control, and perceived risk.
Here are some practical and reassuring strategies for families to support children:
1. Acknowledge and talk about feelings – Encourage open conversations about worries. Simply talking about concerns, without dismissing them, can help children feel understood and supported.
2. Identify triggers – Work together to recognise what might be causing anxiety. Understanding the 'why' is often the first step toward finding solutions.
3. Create a consistent goodbye routine – A simple, predictable routine — such as a hug, special handshake, or positive phrase — helps children feel secure at separation and reassured that they will reconnect later.
4. Use transitional objects – Small, meaningful items (a note, photo, or special object) can provide comfort during the school day and reinforce connection.
5. Establish clear routines – Regular morning routines provide a sense of structure, helping children feel safe and confident about what to expect.
6. Keep goodbyes calm and brief – A short, consistent farewell is often more reassuring than a prolonged or emotional goodbye.
7. Be mindful of language – Use calm, simple, and consistent phrases that reassure without overwhelming. Children are less likely to absorb lengthy explanations when they feel anxious.
8. Trust the school’s support – Teachers play an important role in helping children settle. They may offer tasks, provide social connections, teach calming techniques such as deep breathing, and build strong, trusting relationships.
9. Show confidence in teachers – Children notice the trust you place in their teacher. Positive, trusting partnerships between home and school help children feel secure.
10. Develop a simple 'anxiety plan' – Ask your child to rate their anxiety, compare perspectives with a trusted adult, talk through outcomes, discuss coping strategies, and agree on a clear plan for routines such as morning drop-off.
Supporting children through anxiety is an ongoing journey. With patience, consistency, and connection, we can help our children feel safe, capable, and ready to learn.
I wish you all a wonderful week and a very settled start to term 2.

On Tuesday 7 April, the Year 1 students excitedly hopped onto the buses and headed to the cinema to watch The Magic Faraway Tree. The children were captivated as the characters and events from the book came to life on the big screen.
When we returned to school, the students wrote a recount of their favourite part of the movie and illustrated the characters and scenes they enjoyed most. This experience provided a wonderful opportunity to consolidate the oral language and reading skills we have been developing this term, particularly our focus on identifying the who, where, and when in stories.
The children are now looking forward to exploring more of the magical world of the Faraway Tree as we continue reading the novel together.
