Bethany Christian SchoolMENU
Thank you for attending our STEAM Exhibition last Wednesday. We truly appreciate the time and effort that parents, caregivers and special guests took to join us and celebrate our students' learning.
It was wonderful to spend time with so many students, listening to their reflections, exploring their creations and seeing the pride they took in sharing their learning journey. It was equally rewarding to see so many families actively engaging with the exhibits.
One of the highlights of the day was watching adults work alongside our Reception students to solve problems. I was impressed by the creativity, innovation and critical thinking demonstrated in the projects on display, particularly the prototypes developed to address real-world challenges and the thoughtfully designed science investigations.
Thank you for supporting this valuable opportunity for students and families to learn together.
Mini Olympics
Next term, our Junior Primary students will participate in our Mini Olympics on Friday, 23 October.
Families are warmly invited to attend this special event and enjoy a day filled with fun, participation and encouragement as students showcase their developing skills, teamwork and sportsmanship. We look forward to sharing this exciting occasion with you.
New Play Equipment Coming Soon
We are delighted to announce that new play equipment will be installed between now and the end of the school holidays.
We know our students are excited about this addition and the opportunities it will provide for active play, exploration, creativity and social connection. We look forward to seeing students enjoy the new space when they return next term.
Parent-Teacher Interviews
Parent-Teacher Interviews will be held on Thursday, 17 September and Tuesday, 22 September.
These meetings provide a valuable opportunity to discuss your child's progress, celebrate achievements and set goals for continued growth. We greatly value the partnership between home and school and look forward to these important conversations.
2027 Re-enrolment Process
Over the next week, you will receive an email with information about our new online re-enrolment process through the Veracross Parent Portal.
This new system has been introduced as a part of the new IT system we are now using. This new way of collecting information is to reduce the number of different forms you receive. We want to simplify the process of updating enrolment information, family and medical information updates, annual permissions, and fee account details together in one convenient online form. This will reduce the number of online and paper-based forms throughout the year.
Please review and submit the form, even if no details have changed, to help ensure school records are accurate and preparations for 2027 can begin. The submission deadline is Friday 30 October 2026.
End of Term and School Holidays
School holidays begin next Friday 25 September, with students finishing at the usual dismissal time of 3:10 pm.
Students will return to school on Monday, 12 October, refreshed and ready for a productive and enjoyable final term of the year.
Thank you for your continued support of our school community. We hope you enjoy some quality time with your family and make the most of the beautiful spring weather during the holiday break.
God bless you,
Wendy Matear
Principal
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.

Welcome to Week 9 of Term 3. It is hard to believe that we are already approaching the final weeks of the term. As we reflect on another busy and rewarding week, I would like to congratulate all students, staff and families on their involvement in last week's Learning Exhibition. The effort and enthusiasm displayed by our students as they shared their learning was outstanding. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making the exhibition such a wonderful celebration of learning and growth.
Our Student Representative Council (SRC) Casual Day was a fantastic success and provided students with some exciting lunchtime options. The highlight for many was the lunchtime disco held in the gym, led by our very own resident DJ, DJ Sheeks, also known as 'Mr Sheeky'. The disco was a high-energy event where students enthusiastically danced, sang along to the music and enjoyed spending time with friends. It was wonderful to see students from all year levels participating and having so much fun together. For those who preferred a quieter activity, a Bluey movie was shown in the gym's movement room. Many of our younger students appreciated the calm and relaxed environment where they could sit with friends and enjoy the movie. The total amount raised was $692.15, with proceeds going to Hope Village to support their library. Through discussions in class meetings, the SRC has also decided to allocate funds towards the creation of a Butterfly Garden. This exciting project will provide opportunities for all members of our school community to appreciate and learn about the butterflies that visit our school. More information about the garden will be shared once the SRC has completed further planning and discussion.
The Year 6 dances have been nothing short of spectacular. Throughout the term, students have meticulously planned, practised and refined their performances, which were proudly showcased on stage for our Primary students during Chapel and MMP. Every year, our Year 6 students amaze us with their creativity, talent and commitment, and this year was certainly no exception. What I particularly appreciate is that performing in front of an audience can be a significant challenge for some students, yet they demonstrated incredible resilience and persistence in embracing that challenge. Watching the students overcome their nerves to perform with confidence and experience the joy of success is truly special. The smiles on their faces after their performances were priceless and serve as a reminder that these are the moments from which lifelong memories are made. Well done, Year 6s!
As we head into another busy week, I wish all our parents and families a wonderful week ahead. I hope you have the opportunity to enjoy some sunshine over the weekend and spend quality time with those who matter most.

On the 17th of August, Indonesia celebrated 81 years of Independence. To mark the occasion, all classes joined in the fun during their Indonesian lessons in Week 5.
A highlight for most students was the chance to try Kerupuk (a crunchy Indonesian cracker). Many students wanted seconds! While enjoying the snack, students listened to Indonesia’s national anthem.
Across the school, many games were played including:
Year 6 students had a go at walking on traditional Indonesian wooden planks – an activity that required teamwork, coordination, and plenty of communication.
It was a joyful week of celebration, with students learning about Indonesian culture in a hands-on, memorable way. Selamat Hari Kemerdekaan, Indonesia!
In Indonesian lessons this term, the Year 6 students have been learning about Indonesian food and cooking. In the first few weeks, students learnt about ingredients that are commonly used in Indonesian cooking, how to say the names of these ingredients, and what was needed for our recipes. The week before cooking, students were introduced to some Indonesian cultural norms around cooking and eating.
In Week 7, each class participated in a demonstration on how to cook nasi goreng (fried rice). Students then worked in groups to make a dessert called Dadar Gulung. These are crepes flavoured with pandan and filled with coconut and palm sugar. Students followed a recipe to make the batter, and each cooked their own pancake.
While students enjoyed learning new cooking skills and experiencing Indonesian cuisine firsthand, their favourite part was, of course, eating both dishes! There were many giggles as green batter splattered everywhere, and students discovered what happened when they added a little too much sambal (hot sauce) to their rice.
Thank you so much to all the staff members who helped organise the experience or adjusted their timetables to make it possible. A special thank you also to the ESOs, who were a tremendous help during the lessons!
On Wednesday of Week 8, we held our first STEM Exhibition. Students shared and celebrated their learning across STEM subjects and Brilliance, showcasing products created through the Design with Brilliance Process and reflecting on their growth through the Learning Badges.
The exhibition was about more than displaying finished products. It gave students an authentic audience and an opportunity to explain what they had learned, how they had applied that learning, the challenges they encountered and how they had grown throughout the process.
Reception students invited their families to join their learning about The Gingerbread Man, creating boats and bridges to help Gingy cross the river without getting soggy.
“I liked all the things that the school made. I built a boat for Gingy. My mum came and I liked it because she helped me.”
Massimo
“I liked building bridges in our class. It was really fun having my family there.”
Akur
Year 1 students shared slow-motion videos of their attempts to blow down Three Little Pigs-themed houses. They then worked with their families to decorate and construct paper buildings.
“It was fun to have our parents there. I just want to do that again! I liked reading the pieces of paper and making the paper buildings. My mum opened the apartment door. I was amazed.”
Hallie
“I liked showing my slow-mo video. I liked building the three paper buildings. I liked the apartment the best.”
Joshua
Year 2 students created shelters and presented them in their classrooms through their first exhibition-style experience.
“I liked making stuff, especially my shelter. I also liked seeing other people’s creations.”
Mach
“I liked that my parents got to come. My Learning Badge was Problem Solving. I solved a problem when the popsticks wouldn’t stick together. Then I cut them up and put them down in a different way.”
Vivian
Year 3 students designed dioramas showing how community spaces could be made more inclusive and shared their ideas in the Function Room.
“I liked that the parents gave a lot of feedback about my product. I liked how people tried their best and designed for the exhibition.”
Hoinhu
“When the parents came, they gave us lots of feedback.”
Aryan
After school, the Year 4 to Year 6 students showcased their learning, designs and prototypes in the Wyten Sports Centre.
Year 4 students created ‘unuseless’ inventions designed to solve a range of everyday problems.
“I liked people’s creations. They were very creative.”
Mason
“I also liked the feedback. The people were nice.”
Xavier
Year 5 students demonstrated their learning about desert habitats and animal adaptations through dioramas, poems, information report brochures and biomimicry creations.
“I liked how there were lots of different people who came. My Learning Badge was Problem Solving. I needed to problem-solve a lot during my design.”
Danica
“I liked when people were admiring my work. My Learning Badge was Persistence. I was trying to get it done and not get sidetracked.”
Oscar
Year 6 students applied their understanding of circuits and switches to design and create a range of electrical prototypes.
“I liked that the parents could come and actually have a look. My Learning Badges were Time and Energy Master and Persistence. I used my time wisely and I got it done.”
Gabby
It was fantastic to see so many families participate in the exhibition. The questions, encouragement and feedback from visitors helped students celebrate their achievements and reflect more deeply on their learning.
Thank you to the staff who supported students throughout the learning process and helped prepare and run the exhibition, and to the families who attended and took a genuine interest in students’ learning.
As we look ahead to future learning exhibitions and community events, feedback from families will help inform our planning.
