Bethany Christian SchoolMENU
Welcome to the Week 5 Newsletter for our final term. Our ‘Welcome Back’ events have begun, and we are enjoying seeing students sharing with their families. Thank you for supporting your children and helping them to be ready to learn and share.
With the rise of COVID-19 in the community we are very glad that we decided ahead of time to hold smaller year-level based events that can continue. I would encourage you to stay home if you are unwell. We will do our best to provide healthy environments where people can distance or can enjoy the fresh air, you may like to bring a mask.
This Friday we will be hosting our Mini Olympics for Reception, Year 1, and Year 2 students. Parents and carers are most welcome to come along and enjoy the day. We will continue to pray for good weather in this unpredictable time.
Our PE department has also organised Cycle SA to come to Bethany to give students a positive riding experience. This is an opportunity for students to bring a bike and helmet to school. If you have further questions, feel free to check out the sports page of our website or to email our sports department.
Last newsletter we were able to show the brilliant effort of our Robotics team who participated in our local competition. We were very excited to receive the news that we qualified for the National competition at Olympic Park in Sydney this December. This is an incredible opportunity for our students who have worked very hard to design and build a robot to compete. We are seeking some sponsorship to help families with the costs of participating and our SRC have also decided to hold a casual day to give our team some financial support.
Last Friday the 4W class led a remembrance service for Remembrance Day. They helped us to think about those Australians who serve us through our defence forces. We enjoyed seeing some of our previous students representing the Air Force Cadets to help in the commemoration. Students led and participated in this important remembrance event. I am reminded of what a wonderful country we live in and am thankful to God for his ongoing protection and those willing to serve.
I pray that you continue to stay healthy and that we do get to enjoy some calmer weather soon.
Have a wonderful weekend.
God bless,
Wendy Matear
Principal

Welcome to the midway point for the term, week 5! Many successful events have taken place over the past two weeks, and there are many more to come!
Market Day
The SRC student run Market Day on Thursday 10th of November was a wonderful success, with 47 stall holders being able to sell their products, most of which were created by the students themselves. The event had grown this year so much that we needed to spread the market over two locations; the undercover area (UCA) and the gabled verandah. There was a wide variety of products sold, and there was equal enjoyment of the selling and the buying during the Thursday lunch time. Thank you to the SRC for running the Market Day, and a big shout of ‘thanks’ goes to the stall holders and the students, staff, and parents who came to the market to support them!
SAPOL ‘Think U Know?’ Cyber Safety
On Tuesday 15th of November, the Year 3/4s attended a SAPOL run, ‘Think U Know’ cyber safety presentation. The presentation covered content informing our students about the knowledge and skills required to take actionable steps to keep themselves safe at all times while online. The students were shown a variety of situations to identify what were safe or unsafe situations and shown when and how to seek help. Next week, on Tuesday 22nd of November, the Years 5/6s will have the opportunity to attend a session of ‘Think U Know’.
Grandparents Day & Year 6 Showcase
As part of our ‘Welcome Back’ event, our Year 1 students held a Grandparents Day on Friday 4th of November. It was a fabulous day that was well attended. The students absolutely loved having their grandparents or significant family members attend. Well done Year 1s on such a lovely event.
On Wednesday 16th of November, the Year 6's presented a Showcase event. In front of a live audience, the Year 6 students presented dances, drama, drumming performances and poetry. It was a very polished performance and they did themselves extremely proud. The Year 6's were then able to provide a guided tour of the Year 6 classrooms, showcasing work they had done at school. It was a wonderful performance, well done Year 6s!
Casual Day Friday 25th November – to support the Robotics Challenge ‘Team Sydney’
Our IQ club recently competed in a Robotics Challenge and managed to come 4th, putting them through to a national competition held in Sydney! Four of our oldest students of the IQ club have been selected to fly to Sydney to compete, which is beyond exciting. To help them with the costs, the SRC are holding a casual day on Friday 25th of November. The cost to participate will be a gold coin donation. However, the costs of the trip are quite high. The SRC would like to invite people to make an additional donation on top of the gold coin donation to help support the team flying to Sydney. Additional donations can be given to your child’s teacher. Alternatively, donations can be made at the front office. Your support is greatly appreciated!
I wish you all well as we launch into the second half of our busy term.
God bless you,
Deb Clifford
Deputy Principal

The library was buzzing with excitement on Tuesday, 15th November when they hosted a ‘BLIND DATE WITH A BOOK’ event for the Year 2’s!
Books were gift wrapped and displayed around the Junior Primary library area with only keywords as hints on what the book was about. The children loved the ‘surprise factor’ and had to wait out the day to unwrap their book at home which was very challenging! With lots of curious conversation around what their books might entail this was a very successful event and we hope the children really enjoyed having their ‘Blind Date with a Book’!
This year’s Mini Olympics (Reception - Year 2) is fast approaching! This is a great time for all the students to showcase their growing physical abilities.
The Mini Olympics will be held on the school’s oval on Friday 18th November (Week 5, Term 4).
More information will be updated on the Sports Events Page as we get closer to the event.
