From the Principal

Welcome to our last full newsletter for the year! There’s so much happening as we head into the Christmas season, and we can’t wait to celebrate with you.

Bethany’s Biggest Christmas Banquet
Our Christmas Banquet will be held on Wednesday 3rd December from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. Join us for a festive evening of food, fun, and community. Families are invited to bring a meal and share in the celebration. Students will host tables and provide activities for everyone to enjoy.

The evening will feature a Christmas Parade, shared banquet tables, carols, a Christmas quiz, and activities to enjoy as a family. Bookings for table seating have now closed, but you can still attend. Simply bring a picnic rug or chairs, and we’ll provide a space for you to join in. Please allow extra time to arrive and be seated for the parade. Seating is general admission, so you can sit near family and friends who have booked tables.

To help with parking, weather permitting, we will clear staff cars from our carparks, but you may need to park locally. Please respect our neighbours by keeping driveways clear and avoiding yellow council lines. Thank you for representing Bethany well.

Christmas Giving – Food Hampers, Hope Helpers
We are partnering with Revolution Salisbury City (Parafield Gardens Salvation Army) to provide food hampers for families in need this Christmas. If you would like to donate, please bring items listed on the flyer included in this newsletter. A dedicated space will be available for donations on banquet night.

A small group of students called ‘Hope Helpers’, will be selling some home-made Christmas goods at a stall on the Banquet night with all proceeds going to Hope Village. You may like to bring along some cash to support this venture.

A Season of Generosity
As we enter this season of giving, we are reminded of our memory verse:
"For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life."
This incredible act of generosity continues to impact millions around the world today. At Bethany, we are grateful for this precious gift and excited to spend time with you at the banquet table.

Important End-of-Year Dates
Next Thursday, 4th December, we will celebrate the year with a range of fun activities, including water based bouncy castles and much more. Please read the flyer in this newsletter for details on what to wear for our Celebration Day.

School finishes on Wednesday 10th December at 3:10pm. Our Final Awards Assembly will be livestreamed and recorded for you to enjoy. A link will be sent via email and the BCS App, where you’ll agree to appropriate video use before viewing.

On the Monday of the last week of school, students will meet their 2026 class and teacher and reconnect with friends for next year’s learning journey.

Our Year 6 Graduation will be Tuesday 9th December at 6:00pm with a formal ceremony followed by a dance party for them at school—a wonderful celebration of this milestone. Reception Orientation will be held on Friday 5th December.

Thank You for Your Partnership
Our Bethany community is filled with people who care deeply for children, love God, and want the best for one another. Our vision is to excel in Christian education and character, inspiring greatness, while serving communities and impacting nations.

I pray that you experience God’s peace, love, and joy this Christmas season, and that His blessings overflow in the new year.

God bless you,

What an incredible Market Day we had in Week 5! The event was a resounding success, with an impressive 54 market stalls booked and buzzing with activity. Each stall showcased the creativity and entrepreneurial spirit of our students, offering a delightful variety of goods—from beautifully crafted candles and stunning jewellery to innovative 3D-printed items and even face painting! There truly was something for everyone.

The excitement among students was palpable as they explored the stalls, chatted with the young business owners, and picked out special items to take home. It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm and support for their peers’ hard work.

A huge congratulations goes to our Student Representative Council (SRC) members, who were the driving force behind this event. They took on the challenge of planning Market Day from start to finish—organising stall holders, setting up tables, and ensuring everything ran smoothly, right down to the clean-up after lunch. Their leadership and teamwork were outstanding, and they should be very proud of what they achieved.

We also extend a heartfelt thank you to all the parents and families who came along to support Market Day. Your presence and encouragement made the day even more special for our students.

This year’s Market Day has certainly set the bar high and sparked plenty of inspiration for what’s to come in 2026. We can’t wait to see what creative ideas our students bring to the next event!

I wish you all a lovely week.

God bless you,

Highlights

Year 5 Science Excursion to Adelaide Zoo

On Friday the 21st of November, our Year 5 students had a fantastic day exploring the Adelaide Zoo as part of our Science unit “Living things have structural features and adaptations that help them to survive in their environment.” The excursion provided an exciting hands-on opportunity for students to apply their classroom learning to real-life examples in the natural world.

Students participated in a 45-minute program led by zoo educators, where they examined a range of taxidermy animals up close. This session helped them identify key structural features—such as specialised feet, teeth, skin coverings, and body shapes—and discuss how these adaptations help animals survive in their specific habitats.

Throughout the day, students walked around the zoo making observations of a variety of animals. Two clear favourites were the giant pandas and the giraffes, which sparked lots of great discussions about diet, camouflage, and physical adaptations such as neck length and paw structure.

Of course, no excursion is complete without some time to play, and the students thoroughly enjoyed a break on the zoo’s fantastic playground.

A huge thank you to our wonderful parent volunteers who helped supervise and support the students throughout the day. Your time and enthusiasm made the excursion run smoothly and safely, and we truly appreciate your involvement.

Overall, it was a memorable and educational experience that brought our Science learning to life!

Marty McBubble - The Scientific Bubble Show

Our super excited Reception classes were able to enjoy Marty McBubble’s Scientific Bubble Show in Week 5. This delightful show brought science to life through bubbles—sparking wonder, laughter, and learning across the room.

Our students explored the following ideas:

  • What makes bubbles form
  • Bubble shapes and geometry
  • Watching how bubbles reflect light and change form

Marty’s vibrant performance was perfectly pitched at Reception-level curiosity and energy and we congratulate our students for showing excellent audience skills. They listened intently, supported their peers, and demonstrated fabulous behaviour throughout. The highlight of the performance was giving each child the opportunity to step inside a life-sized bubble!

Encouraging deeper inquiry and observation aligns beautifully with our inquiry-based learning approach. We encourage our students to keep asking questions, wondering and learning through play and a hands-on experiences.

Once again, well done to our young scientists for a memorable and educational event. A big thank you to Marty McBubble and Bright Spark Entertainment  for inspiring us all!

Year 1 Cooking Experience - Healthy Choices and Following Procedures

On Thursday, 20th November, our Year 1 classes enjoyed a hands-on cooking experience focused on two important learning goals: making healthy food choices and following procedures carefully.

It began with excitement as students rolled up their sleeves to create their very own pizzas. This activity was not only fun but also educational, as children explored how to select nutritious ingredients and understand the steps involved in preparing food safely. From spreading the sauce to adding colourful toppings, every child had the opportunity to practice independence and responsibility in the kitchen.

After the cooking session, students participated in a series of engaging games designed to reinforce thinking skills and teamwork. These activities encouraged collaboration and problem-solving.

We are incredibly proud of our Year 1 students for demonstrating Bethany Christian School’s values throughout the day. Their enthusiasm, respect for instructions, and willingness to help one another truly shone. It was wonderful to see them apply classroom learning in such a practical and enjoyable way.

A heartfelt thank you to our amazing volunteers who generously gave their time to assist with preparation, supervision, and clean-up. Your support made this experience possible and ensured everything ran smoothly.

This event was a fantastic reminder that learning can be both meaningful and fun. Well done, Year 1, for embracing healthy choices and showing such care in following procedures!

The year 5/6 Bethany boys touch team had an incredible SACSA tournament. After not losing a game in their pool matches, the boys finished top of the ladder and got the opportunity to play off in the grand final verse Kings. It was a tight match with both teams defending well. The boys put in their all, unfortunately going down, 2 - 1 as the final score. They can be proud of how they represented Bethany and will have a silver medal to remember a great tournament.

What an amazing day of Touch Football! The Yr 5/6 girls team played a wonderful tournament resulting in an undefeated day! The defence was rock solid and stood strong against waves of attack. In offence, the girls were creative which allowed them to show off their skills and speed to great effect. The grand final was an intense game that went right down to the wire - with the girls earning their 2-1 victory over Kings. I'm very proud of the way they adapted to different situations and how they pulled together, especially when faced with challenges. Well done girls, you deserved to be crowned champion!

It was a warm day for our State Hot Shots Tennis Carnival, but all of our students arrived well prepared and stayed hydrated, helping them perform at their best. It was wonderful to see so many schools from both metropolitan and regional areas represented on the day.

Our students showed fantastic attitudes and gave their all in every match. They supported one another, and many - even those who don’t regularly play tennis - rose to the challenge and performed at a very high level. Their efforts earned us an impressive 8th place overall in the state for Year 3/4 schools.

Well done, Bethany team! It was great to see you embrace the challenge and enjoy the day!
