Bethany Christian SchoolMENU
Welcome to our Week 7 newsletter! As we move through the term, there is so much happening across our school community, and we are delighted to share these updates with you. Thank you for your ongoing partnership and support as we continue learning and growing together.
Show Day - Pupil Free Day
Friday, 11 September, is Show Day and will be a pupil free day for both Bethany and Temple Christian College.
If your family is planning to attend the Royal Adelaide Show, we encourage you to take advantage of this day, helping to minimise interruptions to classroom learning during the school week. While students enjoy a well-earned break, staff will be participating in professional learning focused on implementing Toddle, our learning platform.
For families requiring care on this day, OSHC bookings are available.
STEAM Exhibition
Our students have been busy preparing for our upcoming STEAM Exhibition on Wednesday 9th September, and they are excited to welcome you and share their learning.
STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics. More importantly, it represents creativity, problem-solving, collaboration and innovation. We look forward to hearing students talk not only about the products they have created, but also about the learning processes, challenges and discoveries that led them there.
To support our youngest learners, dedicated family sessions will provide opportunities to create and explore together. Our older students have been setting curriculum and character goals to guide their growth and learning throughout the project.
Thank you for supporting this wonderful opportunity for students and families to learn together.
Mini Olympics Update
Next term, our Junior Primary students will take part in our Mini Olympics on Friday, 23 October. Families are warmly invited to join us for this special event and enjoy a day filled with fun, participation and encouragement as students showcase their skills and teamwork. We look forward to sharing this exciting day with you.
New Play Equipment Coming Soon
We are thrilled to announce that new play equipment will be installed in the coming weeks.
This exciting addition has been made possible because of a competition we won with Kompan and a State Government Capital Project Funding, and we are incredibly grateful for this support in enhancing our outdoor play spaces. We know our students are eager to enjoy the new equipment and the opportunities it will provide for active play, exploration and social connection.
Father's Day Stall
This week on Thursday and Friday, students will have the opportunity to participate in our Father's Day Stall and select a special gift for the important father figures in their lives.
We are also looking forward to welcoming our Junior Primary dads and special guests to Donuts for Dads on Friday before school, a wonderful chance to connect, share time together and celebrate the important role they play in our students' lives.
Parent Teacher Interviews
Parent Teacher Interviews will be held on Thursday 17 September and Tuesday 22 September.
Please ensure your email address is up to date so that you receive the booking link which has been sent out. If your contact details have changed, we kindly ask that you notify the school office as soon as possible.
These interviews provide a valuable opportunity to discuss your child's progress and celebrate their growth and achievements. We appreciate the partnership between home and school and look forward to these important conversations.
Thank you for your continued support of our school community. We wish you and your family a wonderful weekend ahead and look forward to seeing many of you at our upcoming events.
God bless you,
Wendy Matear
Principal
Don't just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good.
Romans 12:9
We are thrilled to announce that a brand-new playground will be installed at our school, with construction starting in Week 9 and continuing through the school holidays.
The playground will replace the ageing equipment on the oval near the Kiss and Drop area. The project has been made possible through our school winning a Kompan competition, receiving $40,000 worth of playground equipment, together with funding from a State Government grant. We are extremely grateful for this support.
The new playground will provide students with exciting opportunities for active play, physical development, creativity, and social interaction. We know our students will be excited to enjoy this fantastic new addition to our school.
We look forward to sharing updates as construction progresses.
During the upcoming school holidays the Uniform Shop will be open:
| Wednesday 8th October | 8:00 am to 12 pm |
| Thursday 9th October | 8:00 am to 12 pm |
| Friday 10th October | 8:00 am to 12 pm |
The Student Representative Council (SRC) have organised a Casual Day on Thursday, 10th September, Week 8. Students may wear school‑appropriate casual clothes next Thursday for a gold coin donation. At lunchtime, all students are invited to enjoy a disco in the gym. There will also be a quiet movie session for students who would prefer a calmer activity.
Funds raised will support Hope Village Library and BCS school resources such as yard games and sporting equipment.
Please ensure clothing and footwear are suitable for safe learning and play.
On Friday 28th August, we took a group of 10 students to Scotch College for their annual Digital Technologies conference: DigiFest. This is a hands-on, student-led interactive celebration of digital technologies in education, which brings together industry experts in an expo format and students from schools across Adelaide.
Our students worked in 2 groups to present workshops on 3D printing and coding VinciBots. They also attended workshops run by other students to learn about a variety of technologies used in education. It is a highly interactive day, and our students had a lot of fun learning new skills and experiencing different technologies.
We are super proud of the way they represented Bethany throughout the day, and the kindness and patience shown as they taught their workshops. Well done DigiFest Team!
Mrs Curtis, Ms Nesbitt, Mr Crowley & Mr Graetz
Here is what our team had to say about DigiFest:
Hannah: I enjoyed being able to present our workshop to other students and teach them how to design something to 3D print.
Gabriel: My favourite part was looking at all of the companies in the expo, and getting a JB-HIFI screen cleaner. I learnt how to use FlipAClip. Digifest isn't hard - try it!
Gabby: My favourite thing was when we were able to contribute to the debate and vote on our choice for the winner - I was glad that my choice won! It was really fun and the workshops we did were really interesting. I'm so glad I gave things a go even when I wasn't sure about doing them.
Pippa: I really enjoyed how they ran it and how it was really good for everyone. We got to learn about really cool stuff & future technology. I loved the whole day! It was a super fun event and I wish I'd signed up for it in other years!
Elizabeth: I enjoyed making new friends from other schools, learning how to animate using FlipAClip and experiencing new apps. It was a really fun and good experience and you learn new stuff that you wouldn’t learn at school.
Jesse: I enjoyed running our own workshop and teaching other students. I liked how they had workshops that I could go to and seeing the technology in the expo.
Gabriella: I loved being able to teach others through my workshop on 3D printing. I enjoyed doing the Lego robotics workshop where we had to build a robot arm to pick things up. I just had the best day!
Krishna: It was a fun experience for my first time, and I enjoyed learning what other people were teaching us. I loved teaching others how to use the VinciBots.
Tobias: I enjoyed running the workshop teaching others how to use VinciBots. I also enjoyed the interactive debate and getting to see different technologies.
Zeke: It was the best experience! My favourite part of the day was the VR headsets, learning and the whole experience of being able to learn new skills. I enjoyed being part of the whole experience and being able to work with a great group of people. I was an amazing day!
