Week 5Term 32026

Our students enjoyed a visit from one of our Hope Village staff this week.

From the Principal

Welcome to our Week 5 newsletter.

We are now halfway through Term 3, and we are looking forward to seeing more sunshine as we move towards spring. Earlier this term, I was fortunate to take some leave and enjoy time travelling with my family. I am very grateful for the dedicated staff at Bethany who continue to serve our community faithfully while supporting our students every day.

Our teachers continue to work hard to help children learn and grow. One way we share this learning with families is through our Learning Exhibitions. These exhibitions provide students with opportunities to stretch their "learning muscles" and develop responsibility, reflection, and communication skills.

STEM Learning Exhibition

We are excited to invite families to our STEM Learning Exhibition in Week 8 on Wednesday, 9 September. The exhibition will take place during the later part of the school day and immediately after school.

Developing strong learning skills is increasingly important in our ever-changing world, and this exhibition gives students the opportunity to showcase their learning in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

The exhibition times are:

Reception and Year 1: 2:00pm to 2:30pm or 2:30pm to 3:00pm (parents may choose either session)
Years 2 and 3: 2:30pm to 3:00pm
Years 4, 5 and 6: 3:00pm to 4:00pm

These sessions are designed for families to spend time engaging with their children and hearing about their STEM learning journey. We greatly appreciate your support in encouraging conversations about learning and listening to the stories behind their work.

Students will remain with their teachers throughout the exhibition. Students in Years 4, 5 and 6 will be dismissed at 4:00pm. The playground will be available for parents supervising younger children who may need to wait for siblings to finish.

Class teachers will provide additional information regarding session details and any specific requirements. We are looking forward to seeing the growth in students' planning, thinking, and presentation skills, as well as celebrating their learning achievements together.

We have scheduled this event around school pick-up times to make attendance as convenient as possible, and we hope to see many of you there.

Parking and Student Safety

Thank you for your ongoing support in parking responsibly around the school. I would like to reiterate that parking in designated drop-off zones can impact student safety and traffic flow.

We appreciate the efforts many families are making to follow our traffic management procedures. Please continue to show consideration for others by following the school's traffic management plan, which is available on our website.

Father's Day Stall and Donuts for Dads

In Week 7, we will be holding our Father's Day Stall on Thursday 3rd September and Friday 4th September.

Fathers and father figures play an important role in the lives of our students, and we would love to celebrate them with our Donuts for Dads morning. Please refer to the flyer for further information.

Show Day Pupil-Free Day

Please remember that Friday 11 September is a pupil-free Show Day.

If you are planning to attend the Royal Adelaide Show, we encourage families to consider using this day rather than taking multiple absences throughout the week. OSHC will be available for bookings if you require care for your children on this day.

Thank you for your continued support of our school community. I hope you have a wonderful week ahead.

God bless you,

Wendy Matear
Principal

If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly.

Deputy's Corner

Welcome to Week 5 of Term 3!

It has been a very busy and exciting start to the term, highlighted by the completion of the Swimming Experience for our Reception to Year 4 students. This was a thoroughly positive experience for all students who participated and provided a wonderful introduction to school-based swimming lessons for our Reception students.

Matilda
In Week 4, our Year 3 to Year 6 students had the privilege of attending the Temple Christian College production of Matilda. It was delightful to see our students so engaged in a live theatre performance, especially with many former Bethany students participating in performing roles. The production was thoroughly enjoyed by all and provided a wonderful opportunity to experience the performing arts.

Book Week
Next Monday, we will be celebrating Book Week with our annual dress-up day. Students are invited to come dressed as their favourite book character. This year's theme is “Symphony of Stories”. I am looking forward to seeing the creativity and enthusiasm of our students as they bring their favourite stories to life!

Keeping Safe: Child Protection Curriculum
Bethany Christian School teaches the Keeping Safe: Child Protection Curriculum (KS:CPC), a child safety and respectful relationships curriculum that provides age and developmentally appropriate learning opportunities for children and young people from birth to Year 12.

The KS:CPC supports children and young people to:
• Understand that they have the right to be safe
• Recognise abuse and unsafe situations
• Develop the knowledge, skills, and understanding needed to stay safe
• Seek support for themselves or others when needed

If you would like to learn more about the KS:CPC, please visit the parent and caregiver information page:

Hope Village Staff Visit
During Week 5, we are fortunate to welcome several teachers from Hope Village School. While in Australia, they will be participating in professional learning and training opportunities, and our students will have the chance to meet them during their visit. We look forward to sharing fellowship, learning from one another, and strengthening our connection with the Hope Village community.

I wish you and your families a wonderful week, and pray that you all stay well and warm as the cool weather lingers.

Highlights

WE WANT OUR PARENTS TO TELL US WHAT THEY THINK!

Christian Schools Australia (CSA) are excited to announce that the 2026 Christian Schools Community Profile: Parent Survey is now open for all parents of our school to complete. This is the only national survey of its kind that is specifically designed for Christian school communities and seeks to gather key information regarding the perceptions, levels of satisfaction and priorities of Christian school families as well as their demographic profiles and the way families engage, support and interact with their local Christian school communities. It will be conducted amongst all families with children enrolled in participating Christian schools.

We would like to encourage all parents to complete this important survey. The survey will be conducted online and will only take 15-20 minutes to complete. The survey can be accessed at any convenient time within the fieldwork period on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones.

All parents of our school community can access the survey via the following link: https://research.orima.com/CSAParents/start.php?u=cLm8bGz6

All responses to the survey are anonymous. The survey will be conducted from Monday 3 August to Friday 28 August 2026.

Please do not hesitate to contact Karen Penna if you have any general queries about the survey.

Thank you for your valued input into our Christian school community and Christian schooling across Australia!

The year 3/4 boys team played with passion, perseverance but mostly with heart! I was so impressed with how the boys represented Bethany and not only gave their best but played with a sense of fairness and teamwork. They looked out for each other and encouraged each other, which is what this day is all about. Coming 2nd place is a fabulous achievement and I was so proud to coach such a lovely group of boys. Well done boys! A fantastic result!

With the winter weather testing the grip on the soles of the shoes, the Bethany year 3 and 4 girls student rallied to give an outstanding performance. The skills just kept getting better with every game played. With the smallest of margins, the team solidified a third place in the finals. I was so proud to see the high level of respect and sportsmanship the girls displayed as Bethany students. Fantastic job girls and thank you parent helpers. It was so much fun!

The 5/6 boys played so well as a team! With a strong offensive end in WA, GA & GS the goals came quickly and often in each game. Our boys in centre and the defensive end were strong all day, intercepting a lot of goals and creating opportunities for overturns. Their enthusiasm and encouragement of each other all day created a positive playing environment and above all they can be proud of how well they operated as a team. They represented Bethany very well and earned their spot in the Grand Final. Losing only to Cedar all day, they were worthy runners up and I am so proud of them all! Great work team, what fun and enjoyable day!

The year 5/6 girls represented Bethany with incredible determination and unity. Each of the girls held their position well and played the role they needed for the team. Winning all their round games except one, the girls finished second on the ladder with an opportunity to face of the same team in the final. Unfortunately, the girls couldn't quite get the win, however the improvement was considerable and the girls fought it out to the end
