Bethany Christian SchoolMENU
Welcome to our Term 4, Week 3 newsletter!
It was wonderful to see so many families enjoying the beautiful weather at our Mini Olympics last Friday. The day was filled with fun, enthusiasm, and friendly competition, and our students did a fantastic job participating, encouraging one another, and giving their very best.
We are excited to invite you to celebrate the end of the year at our Christmas Concert, Christmas: It’s Just the Beginning. This is the first time we have included the entire school, from Reception to Year 6, in this special event. Each year level will contribute to retelling the Christmas story through music, movement, and storytelling.
The concert will be performed in two identical 90-minute sessions on Wednesday 2 December:
Matinee Performance: 1:30 pm
Evening Performance: 6:00 pm
Students will be dismissed following the matinee performance and we ask that all students return at 5:30 pm to allow time to prepare for the evening concert.
To enable all families to attend, we will initially allocate up to four tickets per family. A ticket booking link will be emailed to families on Wednesday 4 November. We kindly ask that you book no more than four seats in total at this stage. The concert will also be recorded and made available for families to watch afterwards. Please book your seats by Tuesday 17 November so that any unclaimed tickets can be released to other families.
Re-enrolment for 2027
Thank you to all those families that have already submitted their online re-enrolment forms for 2027. This allows us to continue to have the most accurate information to start the new year. These forms were emailed to all families and are due tomorrow Friday 30th October. If you are having difficulties with the process, please speak to our front office staff or come to a support session at the admin desk Thursday 29th October 2:30pm - 3:30pm or Friday 30th October 8:30am - 9:30am.
In the coming weeks, we will also celebrate a range of significant end-of-year events, including the Year 6 Blessing Chapel, year-level excursions and incursions, Christmas celebrations, and graduation ceremonies.
Thank you for helping your children maintain consistent routines during this busy and exciting season. We greatly appreciate your partnership as we celebrate the learning, growth, and achievements of our students throughout 2026.
God bless you,
Wendy Matear
Principal
So let's not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don't give up.

Welcome to Week 3 of Term 4.
It has been a wonderful start to the term, with many exciting learning opportunities already underway. Last week, our Junior Primary students enthusiastically participated in a highly successful Mini Olympics. This week, our Year 5 and 6 students had the opportunity to take part in a Water Safety Program at Glenelg, delivered by Surf Ed Water Safety. It was a fantastic day enjoyed by all, and it was especially wonderful to hear the excitement of students who caught their very first wave.
Market Day – Friday, Week 5 (13 November)
Our enthusiastic Student Representative Council (SRC) is excited to host the annual Market Day during lunchtime in Week 5 on Friday, 13 November.
Students in Years 3–6 will have the opportunity to operate their own market stalls, selling a variety of homemade and pre-loved items to students from ELC to Year 6. Please note that food and beverages will not be sold.
If your child would like to make a purchase, we kindly ask that they bring cash in a sealed and clearly labelled envelope. Classroom teachers will store envelopes safely until Market Day begins. Items will be priced between 50 cents and $10, making the event affordable and accessible for all students. Parents and caregivers are warmly invited to attend. Stalls will be open from 1:00 pm to 1:30 pm, providing an opportunity to browse the stalls, support our students, and enjoy the vibrant atmosphere.
Market Day has become a much-loved tradition within our school community, celebrating creativity, entrepreneurship, student agency, and initiative. We look forward to another fun-filled afternoon and hope to see many families there.

On Wednesday 21 October, our Year 3 students enjoyed an unforgettable excursion to the iconic Adelaide Oval, where they immersed themselves in the excitement and history of cricket.
A highlight of the day was watching some of the men’s Test match, featuring national players, giving students the opportunity to experience the atmosphere of live cricket. The excitement continued as they collected signatures, creating special memories to treasure.
Students also took part in engaging batting, bowling and fielding clinics, where they developed their cricket skills, learned new techniques and had plenty of opportunities to get involved. Another exciting part of the excursion was visiting the media room and discovering more about the behind-the-scenes action at this famous sporting venue.
The visit also gave students the chance to explore the rich history of Adelaide Oval and learn about the players who have helped shape its proud sporting legacy.
It was a fantastic day filled with learning, laughter and sporting excitement. The students thoroughly enjoyed every moment of the experience, returning to school with big smiles, wonderful memories and a greater appreciation for the game of cricket.
As the Year 4 camp approached there were many nervous students (as well as many anxious parents) as this was the first time sleeping away from their parents for more than a third of our Year 4 students.
Once the bus was underway the excitement for the upcoming activities set in. A walk through parts of Botanic Gardens with Trent Hill explaining the connection to land for the Kaurna people and how they used many of the plants in their everyday lives. Creating nature sculptures in smaller groups and some free time with sports equipment were activities in Botanic Park.
After lunch we all walked to the tram and boarded. The students did themselves proud as they constantly got up and offered their seats to others as new passengers boarded. We stepped off the tram at the Thebarton stop and walked to Bonython Park. They explored the many different pieces of play equipment that the playground had to offer. Then another walk back to the bus. Very tired legs as many said that this was more walking than they would do in a week.
Back at school and the students were allocated their tents to sleep in. Then ice creams for dessert and free play while we waited for pizza for dinner. Later a movie in the PAC. Many students found it strange to be at school when it was dark. So many different noises at night.
After a night with not much sleep for teachers as well as some students we had pancakes for breakfast and then learnt how to throw a boomerang. The students had painted these in the lead up to camp. Fruit and popcorn for Recess and then they participated in making and cooking damper, building small shelters with resources from nature and games on the oval. Lunch was hot dogs and leftovers.
The students then did an excellent job of dismantling the tents and were rewarded with an ice block and some free time.
Talking to the students about their camp experience, these were some of their responses – amazing; super fun; noisy (when I was trying to sleep); interesting (because I got to do and learn new things); tiring; yummy food; good – spending the night with friends; didn’t like being in a sleeping bag; sleeping in the tent – fun for some and not for others; good – having dessert before dinner; fun – setting up tents while some found it boring; good at Botanic Gardens; loved the Hamster Wheel; didn’t like washing the dishes; watching a movie and throwing boomerangs.
The camp ended when parents came and picked up some very tired students who hopefully had some good and new experiences, that in the future, they can build on.
What a fantastic day our Year 5 students had at Glenelg Surf Life Saving Club for Surf Education!
The students had a wonderful time learning about beach safety, water awareness and surf lifesaving while taking part in a range of fun and engaging activities.
Throughout the day, students participated in beach games, flags and relays, had the opportunity to use nipper surf lifesaving boards, and practised mock rescues using rescue tubes.
Alongside the practical activities, students developed their understanding of beach signs and flags, identifying rips, wind and waves, marine creature awareness, emergency responses and the importance of SunSmart practices.
It was wonderful to see the students getting involved, challenging themselves, working together and building their confidence in and around the water. They represented our school beautifully, and we are so proud of their enthusiasm and positive attitudes throughout the day.
A big thank you to the team at Glenelg Surf Life Saving Club for providing such a valuable and memorable learning experience for our Year 5 students!

On Friday 23 October, our Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 students came together for our much-loved annual Mini Olympics. The day was filled with sunshine, a little bit of rain, smiles and plenty of opportunities for our young athletes to get involved and have fun!
Students took part in a variety of athletic challenges, including the 70m sprint, vortex throw and long jump, alongside a range of exciting activities designed to build teamwork, coordination and confidence. Highlights included the water relay, jumping castles, mini golf, run the gauntlet, scooter board relays, tug of war and time on the playground.
One of the best parts of the day was seeing our students demonstrate wonderful sportsmanship, perseverance and encouragement towards their peers. Whether competing in an event or cheering on their classmates, everyone had the opportunity to participate, challenge themselves and celebrate each other’s efforts.
We were also delighted to see so many parents and families come along to support the students and share in the excitement. Events like these are a wonderful reminder of the strong sense of community we enjoy at our school.
A big thank you to all the staff, families and helpers who contributed to making this year’s Mini Olympics such a memorable and enjoyable experience for everyone involved!

What a fantastic day for our Year 5/6 girls’ table tennis teams!
The girls played outstanding table tennis throughout the day, with their skills and confidence continuing to grow as the competition progressed. They supported and encouraged one another every step of the way, demonstrating awesome teamwork and sportsmanship from start to finish.
In an exciting finish, our Silver and Gold team faced off in the Grand Final. It was a closely contested match, with both teams playing at a very high level. In the end, our Silver team came away as champions!
Congratulations to all the girls on an incredible effort. You should all be proud of yourselves, not only for your results but also for the way you represented your team throughout the day. What an achievement!
