Bethany Christian SchoolMENU
Welcome to our Newsletter for Week 5 of Term 3. We find ourselves half way through this term which seems to have snuck up on us very quickly.
Next week we have swimming lessons with our Year 5 and Year 6 students each day. Please ensure that all forms are returned and that you speak with your class teacher if you have any questions. Our Reception students are heading off to learn about road safety and our Year 2 students are visiting the Museum and the Central Markets. It is wonderful for students to be able to enjoy a range of experiences as part of our learning program.
Our teachers are working with your children to find ways that we can celebrate the diverse cultures that we represent at Bethany Christian School. We want to continue to build cultural awareness and respect together. Each year level, including our ELC are exploring how we can celebrate together throughout Week 8 of this term. While we cannot hold large community events, we are still finding ways that our students can be impacted by each other and can share their learning. We will use a similar model to the one that we developed at the end of last year, to encourage year levels to present an experience for the rest of the school, from ELC through to Year 6. This way there is a meaningful opportunity for your child to create something worth sharing with others and also see how others bring a broad range of ideas and opportunities they can learn from. We will keep you updated as we develop this experience and I would encourage you to speak with your children about what they are learning as well as sharing your stories of your family culture.
Friday 10th September will continue as a Pupil Free day even though the Royal Adelaide Show has been cancelled. Staff have a professional learning day planned and so if you require care, OSHC will be open for bookings.
In the final two weeks of term we plan to hold our Parent Teacher Interviews in a similar format to Semester 1. We anticipate having one parent/caregiver attending per child and will use appropriate social distancing. You will also be asked to wear a face mask unless you have an exemption or need to remove it to communicate clearly. We will send home a booking link and ask you to choose which times you would like to book. These will be available in a couple of weeks for you. Interviews are held on Thursday 16th September and Tuesday 21st September.
I pray that you will have a refreshing weekend.
God bless,
Wendy Matear
Principal
Memory Verse
If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you a have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly.
Romans. 12:8b
Welcome to the middle of term 3! I have been so impressed with how settled our students have been at school. They have been literally bubbling with enthusiasm for all the Brilliance projects that have been brought in and displayed. There has been such an array of different types of projects and it is clearly obvious that the students have thoroughly enjoyed being creative and inventive.
Spring is not too far away now, and last weekend was a great reminder of the good weather still to come. I have included a "Nature’s Play SA 20 Things to Notice in National Parks" and "25 Things to Notice Along the SA Coastline" for your interest. I thoroughly enjoy beach combing or wandering in a national park with my family and never cease to be surprised at the number of new things we find or see.
With the news reporting COVID-19 daily, it is easy for us to become fatigued and feel mentally drained. If someone in your family is finding it challenging at the moment, please reach out and make contact with the school’s Wellbeing Team. We can be contacted on the school number of 8283 0000. Our team is made up of Leeony Pfeiffer (Counsellor), Elise Ottens (Social Worker), Priya Wilson (School Nurse) and me (Deputy Principal).
On the Nature’s Play SA website (https://natureplaysa.org.au/families/nature-play-downloads/) there are resources for Mental Health, Mindfulness and things to do during COVID as a family. You may find something on this website that you will find helpful.
On the topic of all things nature based, the students were extremely excited to see our very bossy and highly opinionated Masked Lapwing Plover pair have returned to lay their eggs in the nature play area near the oval. While it is not an ideal area for them to lay a clutch of eggs, what a wonderful opportunity for our students to watch birds in the very act of raising a family.
COVID Sign-In
Thank you to everyone who is signing in, either by QR code or manually. The paper sign in sheet has now been removed from outdoor entrances to better protect the privacy of those signing in. If you are unable to use the QR code, please come to the office and pick up a sign in slip. Simply fill it in and hand it to the staff member behind the administration desk where it will be put into a safe location and kept secure for 28 days. After this time, the slips will be destroyed in accordance with the SA Health regulations. SA Health will only request these details should an outbreak be linked to Bethany Christian School. We very much appreciate your willingness to help us in this matter.
I wish you a fabulous week!
God bless you,
Deb Clifford
In Week 6 and 10 our Year 5,6 and Year 1 and 2 students will have swimming lessons. I would like to remind you of the following:
• As usual the school will pack the medication that has already been provided to the school
• Please make sure to check your child’s hair for headlice before the swimming event
• If your child is not feeling well, please keep the child at home and notify the school
• As per the swimming center policy, you must not swim for 2 weeks after gastro symptoms have ceased
• For more information about swimming center policies please visit the below link

Lost Property
The school’s lost property baskets have been overflowing and as I sorted the jumpers today, noticed there is so many jumpers and jackets with no name, or the names have faded off. There is a basket full of water bottles and lunch boxes as well with no name on them. This week we learned about being responsible and doing it diligently. So, can you please talk to your children about packing their things straight away after using them. Some of the things you can do:
• Have a little check list (this can be in the form of pictures) on their bag to pack their things in to the bag at the end of recess, lunch and after school
• Having a demo at home how to pack a bag
• Reward charts for coming home with every item that belong to them
• If they take their jumper or jackets off, ask them to put it straight in their bag or tie it around their waist
• Please label all the uniform items, lunch boxes and drink bottles clearly whether whether they are new or secondhand
• Please do not send the children with valuables such as gold rings, gold earrings, watches or any toys that are dear to them
God Bless You,
Priya Wilson

Not long now until Book Week! Please remember that there will be no dress up day this year. Dress up day at Bethany is every second year. This year we will be holding the Scholastic Book Fair. Please read the information below for more details.
I am writing to thank all of the wonderful children at Bethany Christian School who participated in Jump Rope for Heart. You all did an amazing job and were one of the highest fundraisers in the whole of South Australia. You all deserve a big pat on the back for not only helping the Heart Foundation raise money to help with our fight against heart disease, but also for doing some great exercise, helping to look after your own hearts. I hope you all had lots of fun and I hope you all keep skipping for good health.
Also, a big thank you to Mr Hannaford for his coordination and Harper in 2Z for being one of the highest fundraisers.
