Bethany Christian SchoolMENU
Welcome to our Week 9 newsletter, our final newsletter for term 1. This week we celebrated Easter and shared some of our students learning as they explored the joy of Easter. We hope that you enjoyed seeing your children shine as they participated in our Easter Chapels this week. Thank you for your support in attending or watching this special celebration. Our students always remind me that there are so many opportunities for joy in life and there are many things to be grateful for. I enjoy seeing students try new things and the performance skills involved in these chapel services are another way for children to grow.
I trust that you were able to enjoy some family time over the Easter long weekend. I really enjoyed spending time with my family, my church family, and at home. Rest is such an important part of life, and we need to take time to slow down and take care of our health and those important relationships in our lives.
Recently Nathan Grierson and I were invited to Parliament House to speak on behalf of Independent Schools Australia regarding the importance of Independent schooling. We were able to share real stories of our children learning well. It was awesome to know that Bethany Christian School was one of 3 schools sharing our story with the Honourable Jason Clare MP, Minister for Education. I have included a report from this visit to Canberra for Rountable event for your interest. The full report will be launched in mid April. Here is the link to the report. https://acrobat.adobe.com/id/urn:aaid:sc:AP:6cacbe77-d372-49c1-9ec5-0dcf742ad28a
Parent Teacher Interviews are on this Thursday and next Tuesday evening. Please make sure that you take this time to catch up with your child’s teacher. It is a 10-minute time slot so please arrive a little early to make sure that we can run on schedule.
Our Year 3 and Year 4 students have swimming lessons next week. Swimming is an essential safety skill in Australia, and I would encourage you to support your children to participate in developing their ability to stay safe around water.
The SRC are holding a Casual Clothes Day on Wednesday 10th of April, Week 10, to raise money to increase the sporting equipment in the basketball courts for recess and lunch play. Students may wear school appropriate casual clothing for the cost of a gold coin donation. Even if your child is attending the swimming week, they can still participate in the casual clothes day.
School dental visits are currently underway. This service is provided by Dental for Schools, who manage all bookings and will communicate with you directly. Please contact 7225 8142 for more information.
Our last day of school this term finishes at 3:10pm on Friday 12th April, followed by two weeks of school term break. Term 2 starts on Tuesday 30th April. If you need care for you children, vacation care is available and OSHC is open on Monday 29th April.
I pray that you have a restful school break, and we look forward to seeing your children ready for learning next term.
God bless,
Wendy Matear
Principal
Welcome back from our Easter long weekend! I trust you and your families had a very blessed Easter break. The weather was simply fabulous, I hope you all got to thoroughly enjoy some time outdoors with each other.
Lunch Boxes
The Wellbeing Team have put together a Lunchbox Checklist to help our students build independence when it comes to packing a healthy lunch box.
Feel free to show your children the checklist and talk through the importance of packing something from each colour category to for a balanced diet.
Please remember, that if your child ever forgets to pack their lunch or there has been a mix up in ordering an online canteen order, the Wellbeing Team run the Sandwich Bar which provides a free sandwich to any student who needs lunch. All the food is generously donated by the Foodbank, allowing us to offer the Sandwich Bar free to any student, Monday to Friday.
Here is a link to a website where you and your child can have some fun building your own lunchbox online.
Nature Play “Things to do in Autumn”
With the school break not too far away, you may be interested in Nature Play’s “Things to do in Autumn”. The Nature Play website is a great tool to get some new ideas on what to do outdoors with our children: https://natureplaysa.org.au/ .
Naming Uniform Items
The changing of season is a timely reminder that our children will need to wear more clothing to keep warm as the weather cools down. Take some time to check that your child’s uniform items, such as their jumpers and jackets have your child’s name clearly written on them. Over time and with multiply washes, the name tags can fade or become lost, so it is a great time to make sure the names are still able to be read.
Our lost property boxes are located near the Uniform Shop, in the Undercover Area (UCA). There are many jumpers and jackets that are unnamed and unclaimed.
SRC Casual Clothes Day
The SRC are holding a Casual Clothes Day on Wednesday 10th of April, Week 10, to raise money to increase the sporting equipment in the basketball courts for recess and lunch play. Students may wear school appropriate casual clothing for the cost of a gold coin donation. Even if your child is attending the swimming week, they can still participate in the casual clothes day.
I wish you and your families a wonderful of term 1 and pray for a safe school break.
God bless you,
Deb Clifford
Deputy Principal
Thank you to all our family members and friends who came along and supported the special Easter Chapels that we held on Wednesday 3rd April. We are very proud of the students who all performed to the best of their ability.
We have included some photos of both chapels for you to enjoy. All the photos were taken by Year 6 students who are a part of the BCS Creations team.
Camp Medication
The Year 6s are going on their camp in Week 2, Wednesday 8th May to Friday 10th May. We will pack the medication that has been provided to the school. If your child is on any regular medication that needs to be administered in the evening, night or in the morning, please provide the medication along with a management plan or medication authority form signed by a doctor and the parent by Wednesday 10th April 2024. The following details need to be included: name of the child, medication name, dose, time to administer and any special instructions. All medications including antihistamines, Panadol and any other over the counter medication/herbal medications need to have a doctor’s note. The school will not be able to administer any medication without the doctor's authorisation form, as per the school policy. If the medication is not provided by the end of Week 6 the child may not be able to attend camp. If you have any concerns, please contact the school on 8283 0000.
Swimming
Week 10 is swimming week for our Year 3s and Year 4s.
I would like to remind you of the following:
• If your child suffers from eczema which is worsened by swimming, please talk to your child's teacher or to the school nurse who can help to implement a care plan for your child
• As usual the school will pack the medication that has already been provided to the school
• Please make sure to check your child’s hair for headlice before the swimming event
• If your child is not feeling well, please keep the child at home and notify the school
• As per the swimming center's policy, you must not swim for 2 weeks after gastro symptoms have ceased
• For more information about the swimming center's policies please visit the below link https://parafieldgardensswimschool.com.au/contact-us/our-policies

This year we went on our Year 5 camp to Woodhouse Adventure Park. We did 9 activities and were split into 3 groups. Each group had 2 teachers. We stayed in dorms with 4-5 people and had amazing food from the fabulous chefs. My favourite activity was 100% Challenge Hill. I really liked ice blocking also. Overall, camp was amazing and it made me step out of my comfort zone.

My highlights from my Year 5 camp were having so much fun with my friends in our dorms and on our activities. Another highlight was going on the night walk and seeing all the nature and some animals. Everyone had so much fun.
