Bethany Christian SchoolMENU
Welcome to our final newsletter for this term. Our students are continuing to learn together, and I am very proud of the way they are dealing with the many changes they have experienced this term. We have our Cross Country Day this Friday for our Year 3, Year 4, Year 5, and Year 6 students. Cross country is run in smaller groups with staggered start times so it will be a wonderful to enjoy this event together.
This Thursday night we begin our Parent Teacher Interviews online. These online meetings will be held on Microsoft Teams. Once you follow the link to choose a time, you will receive a meeting link. Please join the meeting 3 minutes before your appointment time to keep everything flowing throughout the evening. This is a 10-minute interview with your child’s teacher so please be aware of keeping to the time frame for the benefit of all parents. If you need to cancel or change your time for Thursday, we have appointments for next Tuesday night for booking 12th April open until Monday 11th. We really appreciate your help with this.
Next week we have a Pupil Free day on Monday 11th April. OSHC is available on this day. We also finish early on Thursday 14th at 12:10pm. We understand that Temple Christian College have announced that they will not have students on that last day of term. If you are now unable to send your child to school on that day, please notify us either through the Bethany app or by calling the office on 8283 0000.
As you may be aware, the Police Commissioner has removed the vaccination mandate in education and so at this time we are undergoing consultation with our staff in order to establish our policy moving forward. We will maintain our current practices until this is established.
Over the past 3 years our school has been a part of a learning project with a group of 20 Independent schools exploring Student Agency. We will be sharing our work at a Symposium at Pulteney Grammar school early next term. We also look forward to sharing with you how this has developed and how our school is impacting the conversation about why this work is important. We continue to be reminded of how capable our students are when it comes to making choices and investments in their learning journeys and, we want to see this continue to grow into the future.
Our new space now has slides, a sandpit and we can see it taking shape. I know that students are very excited as they discuss the progress. We look forward to opening this space early next term.
Our annual Mother's Day stall will be held in the first week of next term on Thursday 5th and Friday 6th May. Prices range from 50cents to $15. Please send any money in a zip locked, named bag to keep it safe. We love to bless the wonderful Mums in our community.
I do pray that you will enjoy some time together as a family over Easter and that you will find ways to be refreshed together. I also pray for health and peace as you spend time together and would encourage you to engage in an Easter service near you. Thank you for the way you have listened to advice, followed recommendations, and kept our community safe. We really do have an awesome community and I feel blessed to be a part of it.
Have a wonderful holiday break and we will see you on Tuesday 3rd of May for the first day back of term 2.
God bless,
Wendy Matear
All your children will have God for their children - what a mentor for your children.
Isaiah 54: 13
I realise it is extremely cliché to once again note the speed at which time seems to be flying by, but it really does seem that time has flown this term! How is it that we are almost at Easter already?
Next week is a very short week, with our Pupil Free Day on Monday 11th April and an early dismissal on Thursday 14th April. The teaching staff will be working hard on that Monday as they are trained in the use of the Keeping Safe: Child Protection Curriculum. This curriculum will then be implemented and added to our Australian Curriculum taught throughout the school, from ELC to Year 6.
With the school holidays fast approaching, you may be interested in, or looking for, new activities for your children to get involved in. If you are interested in Nature Play SA, they have a range of activities on their webpage to access. Included in this issue of the school newsletter is, “25 things to do in Autumn”. They also have a competition on offer where families could win a bundle worth $200 of outdoor exploration equipment. There is also access for families to look at the Nature Play SA Events currently on offer. Check out their website at https://natureplaysa.org.au/ .
Student Leadership
Last week our Year 6 Student Leadership programme kicked off after a late start due to COVID-19. Our students were eager to get started and are very excited to start exploring leadership within the school. This week’s theme is, “Learning” and the year 5 & 6 students learned about the, “Law of Influence” from John Maxwell. Maxwell (2007) wrote, “I love the leadership proverb that says, “He who thinks he leads, but has no followers, is only taking a walk.” If you can’t influence people, then they will not follow you. And if people won’t follow, you are not a leader. That’s the Law of Influence. No matter what anybody else may tell you, remember that leadership is influence – nothing more, nothing less.”
Car park
Thank you to everyone who is using our Kiss ‘n’ Drop driveway and our front Turning Circle correctly, and not parking to wait for your children. It has been noted that there has been a significant uptick in the amount of traffic around the school before and after school. By observing the rules and keeping traffic moving, you are helping everyone and being considerate of the other users of the road. This goes a huge way towards keeping our vulnerable students safe when coming to school in the morning and going home in the afternoon. Your continued support is greatly appreciated.
I wish you and your family well during Easter and the school break.
God bless you,
Deb Clifford
