Week 9Term 12021

Some photos from the special Easter Monday Morning Praise

From the Principal

Welcome to our final newsletter for Term 1. We head into the Easter weekend beginning with an early dismissal this Thursday at 12:10pm, with Temple students also finishing early at 12pm. Our students will participate in a series of reflections on the Easter story during the week. At Monday Morning Praise we shared a Palm Sunday experience led by our Year 2’s followed by Chapel on Wednesday, where Pastor Dan and Ebony-Rose from 3H/R will share. They will reflect on how Jesus shows Gods love for us as he took the mess of our lives, in order to bring about a restoration of relationship. Then on Thursday we will celebrate the resurrection and future of hope we have. This weekend I pray that you will find opportunities to reflect on the love that God has for you and your family and find meaningful ways to enjoy some time together. If you would like to attend an Easter service, Base Church meet in our Performing Arts Centre on Sunday at 10am and you are most welcome.

The Parent Teacher Interviews have been held and we thank you for your help with arriving on time and also following the COVID-19 safe guidelines. I trust that you enjoyed talking about your child and the learning that has taken place so far this year. We look forward to the continued relaxing of restrictions over the coming months as vaccines are rolled out so that we can find ways to meet together in other ways too.

Daylight Savings ends this weekend and so I would encourage you to make the most of the extra hour of sleep as we head into the cooler months. We also ask that you remind your children to continue washing their hands, coughing into their elbow and taking care of their hygiene. These things certainly help all of us to remain healthier and avoid unnecessary colds and flus.

Next term, we have NAPLAN for our Year 3 and Year 5 students on May 11-13th. This is a part of the National requirements for school students in Australia. The results are used to help set improvement agendas. I would encourage you to see this as just one snapshot of your child’s progress. If you have further questions, please make contact with your child’s class teacher.

Our SRC students have organised a casual day next Wednesday. Students can wear appropriate casual clothes for the day as they bring a gold coin donation.

Next week is also a 4 day week with Easter Monday a public holiday. We finish Term 1 on Friday 9th April at 3:10pm. Term 2 starts Wednesday 28th April as we have the Anzac Day public holiday and a pupil free day on Tuesday 27th April with OSHC available for bookings.

I pray that you will know God's love for you this coming weekend and that you will discover the joy of a hopeful future as we trust Him for His leading and provision.

Memory Verse

All your children will have God for their teacher - what a mentor for your children!

Isaiah 54:13

Deputy's Corner

With the lead up to Easter this week, I know that there are many kind-hearted and very generous parents (and grandparents) who wish to bless our students by handing out chocolates or lollies, or even items such as stickers or small tokens of appreciation.

While this is very nice gesture with no ill-intent, it is against school policy for any adult to hand out gifts or food to our students. Our volunteer policy states that, “to respect our students means not encouraging affection from or dependency in students,” which is created by giving our children food or presents.

More and more students are being enrolled with food allergies. Often it is difficult to tell what ingredients are included unless you read the fine print. Brisbane has just gone into lockdown over the latest COVID19 cluster. We must remain vigilant. Please refrain from giving food and gifts to our student, to avoid causing harm to our students and avoid being embarrassed by being approached by one of our staff to ask to you stop.

One of the opportunities we provide at Bethany is student leadership. I have asked some of these students to share their experiences with you.

Meet our Lumin8 Group

Being in the Lumin8 group is a big responsibility. Since being made a student leader, the members of Lumin8 have had to speak on stage for Monday morning praise, in front of 533 students each week. We meet weekly and learn about different parts of leadership.
Renata, Cheyenne, Adesola, Sarah

“I thought speaking at Chapel was going to be harder than it was. It was made easier because we had a script and because we got to practice before we went on stage.”
Kaylee Ward

“I was surprised that when we’re not on stage and are waiting to go up we feel really nervous, but as soon as we’re on stage we feel more confident.”
Braith Hickey

SRC

This term the SRC have been organising a casual day fundraiser to raise money for equipment in the new nature play area near the 3-6 Learning Block. The casual day will be held on Wednesday 7th April. The SRC is made up of eleven keen Year 6 students who want to give the students a voice within our school. We hold weekly meetings on Tuesday lunchtimes and we share our roles, such as chairperson and secretary each term. During these meetings we all have a chance to speak up and add our ideas. We have enjoyed working together this term and look forward to serving our school this year.
Renata Manno (chairperson for term 1).

Hope you have a lovely weekend.

God bless you,

Health Care

This week I have seen the joy in our students as they celebrated the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. The steps they were taking in knowing and spreading the good news of Jesus Christ was beautiful to see. I pray this joy will spread to your families, as you celebrate Easter this long weekend.

I would like to remind you of the following;

Year 4 Sleepover and Excursion - medication requirements

The school will pack the medication that has already been provided to the school for the Year 4 Sleepover and Excursion.

However, if your child is on any regular medication that needs to be administered during the night or day time, please provide the new medication along with a Doctor’s note one day prior to the event (07/4/2021).

*All medications needing to be administered during this time, including over the counter and herbal medication, must have a Doctor’s note.

Health Topic of the week

Infectious Disease
(referred from the SA Health website)

  • Infectious diseases are illnesses caused by the spread of microorganisms (bacteria, viruses, fungi or parasites) or prions to humans from other humans, animals or the environment, including food and water.
  • The spread of certain infectious diseases can be reduced by excluding a person, known to be infectious, from contact with others who are at risk of catching the infection.
  • A childcare/educational worker or a student with gastroenteritis (also known as ‘gastro’: inflammation of the intestinal (bowels)), should not return to work for at least 24 hours after vomiting or diarrhoea have stopped.
  • Bethany Christian school uses the SA Health recommendation related to the exclusion period. For further information and to find out the exclusion period for a particular illness please follow the link below to our website

Christian Schools Australia Community Profile Survey

WE WANT OUR PARENTS TO TELL US WHAT THEY THINK!

We are conducting a survey to better understand the reasons why parents choose to send their children to our school. The Christian Schools Community Profile: WHY PARENTS CHOOSE CHRISTIAN SCHOOLS survey is offered by Christian Schools Australia. It will be conducted amongst all families with children enrolled in participating Christian schools. It is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of parents’ choice of school, their satisfaction with their children’s learning, their engagement in the school community and their general background. Our school will use the survey results to help gain a better understanding of our community, to inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies.

All families will be invited to participate in the survey. The survey will be conducted online and will only take 15-20 minutes to complete. The survey can be accessed at any convenient time within the fieldwork period on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones.

All responses to the survey are anonymous. The survey has now been extended to Friday 16th April 2021.

Please do not hesitate to contact Karen Julius on 8283 0000 if you have any general queries about the survey.

2021 Cross Country Championships

On Friday 12th February, Bethany held our Cross Country Championships. What a fantastic day for all our students from year two to six who ran, walked and gave their best over different lengths (1km, 2km or 3km) depending on their age group. They did so well and we were proud of them all.

We are very grateful to our volunteer parents and the staff who made the day a true success by assisting in being a marshall or doing admin at the results desk. Thank you to Robyn Curtis, Joshua Curtis, Nathan Casey, Suzie Casey, Debra Dohnt, Jenny Lawton, Narelle Henderson, Shelley Howard & Kellie Howard. Many thanks also go to Cheryl Wyten for marshalling all our students, Dean Huntley for recording and Peter Wyten for starting the races. Thank you to the maintenance team for assistance with setting up and packing down and the teaching staff who all worked with us to help make the day run so smoothly. It was fantastic to see so many supporters of parents, family and friends who came out to cheer the students on. Thank you for supporting the students and this event.

Each year the students are given an opportunity to raise money through our annual Cross Country championships.

This year our students fundraised $4995, which is outstanding. Our profit for 2021 is $3496.50 which will go towards sports equipment.

Here are our top 3 individual fundraisers this year:

Emily P2Z$255
Chanel H6W$225

What a fantastic effort by all our students for working together to raise money for our school.
