JP End of Year Concert

From the Principal

Welcome to our Week 7 Newsletter. Our Junior Primary students did a wonderful job of telling the story of how faith, hope and love have impacted them this year. They performed really well and I enjoyed seeing those moments of recognition as they saw their loved ones in the audience. I would like to thank everyone who was involved in making sure that it was such a success.

Next week we will have our Primary Brilliance Exhibition. This will be a celebration of our students and the way that they are exploring what it means to shine. We believe that school can be a place where children explore and experience a range of opportunities to discover more about who they are and how helping others brings meaning to our lives. Please join us between 5:30pm and 7:30pm to see live performances, enjoy games, view artwork and speak with students about what they have created. There will be a number of food vans on site for guests to purchase dinner. We ask that students eat before returning to school by 5:15pm, as they will remain with their product for the evening to interact with visitors. Primary students wear their PE uniform to the event.

Our Year 6 Graduation happens on Tuesday 10th December with a ceremony followed by a dance party for students. Light refreshments are provided for parents as they wait after the ceremony.

School finishes for the year on Wednesday 11th December with our final assembly 2 - 3pm. Student reports are handed out by class teachers before dismissal at 3:10pm.

Our ELC students have their Christmas concert, ‘Everyone loves a baby’ in our Performing Arts Centre on Thursday 5th December at 4 - 5pm. This is always a lovely way to celebrate a year of growth and learning with our ELC students and you are welcome to attend.

With less than 2 weeks to go until the end of school, I would like to remind you that routines are very helpful for children as they get weary. Please do your best to keep up bed time routines and regular healthy eating. I look forward to finishing the year well and enjoying each celebration together.

I pray that you have a wonderful weekend.

God bless,

Wendy Matear

Farewell to our Year 6 Students

It has come to that time of the year where our Year 6 students are getting ready to make the big move to secondary school. Many of our graduates have been with us since Reception, others have joined us part way through their learning journey. It has been such a privilege to have had them at Bethany Christian School where they have grown up into the young people we know today. We do wish them well as they start their next adventure in their education.

Reading your child’s reports

On Wednesday of Week 9, your child will be bringing home their end of year school report. The school reports and the parent teacher interviews during the year are a great way of getting an idea of how your child is progressing at school. When you do look at your child’s report, remember to remain positive, praising their growth points and their development. By focusing on this rather than their ‘grades’ sends them a valuable lesson that you value a ‘learning orientation’ rather than a ‘grade orientation’. This way, your child will become more likely to enjoy the journey of learning and the challenge this presents, rather than on the marks they receive. Try to avoid comparing your child’s report with that of either another sibling, or with your child’s friend. Your child’s learning journey is as unique as they are! Praise their hard work and persistence and areas they have shown improvement in. Celebrate the end of the school year with your child. It has been a big year and it is one worth celebrating with them!

Social Media Free Time

As we begin to plan for time with the children during the school holidays, I wonder how many of those days will be truly ‘unplugged’ from digital devices and social media? There are many people who publish the benefits of reducing the amount of time spent on a device, online or on social media. One such author found that after a 30 day social media cleanse she discovered more joy (and less negativity) in her day and better sleep patterns (https://www.lifetothefullest.abbott/en/articles/30-day-challenge--social-media-cleanse.html).    What would a day without devices, television, social media or the internet even look like? Perhaps you could set your own family challenge of a day without social media. It gives us food for thought as the school holidays loom closer.

I do wish you and your family a very special Christmas and New Year with your family. May God bless you as this year ends, and another one begins.

God bless you,

Deb Clifford

Uniform Labels

If you missed out on the iron on label promotion that was run by the Uniform Shop last year please note that it is available again this term. Head into the Uniform Shop to pick up an order form if you haven't already received one. Fill it in as the special price is only $3 for 10 labels with an extra 5 included at no extra cost. This offer is only available until the end of this term!

Lost Property

As there has been such a large amount of unnamed lost property that has been handed into the front office, we will set up a table to display all the items that we have collected over the term. Please come to the undercover area in front of the Year 2 classrooms to check to see if any of the items might belong to you. The tables will be set up before school on Thursday 5th December and will be available from 8.15 am onwards.

Mini Olympics

On Tuesday November 5 we held our annual Mini Olympics for all children in Reception and Year One. The weather was ideal and it was great to see so many families and friends attend the day supporting the children. The students competed in the 50m sprint, Water relay steeple chase, Vortex, Long Jump, Inflatable challenges and Tug-O-War. All the students should be proud the way in which they participated, trying their best and supporting and encouraging one another. They were all very brave participating in front of so many people.

Final House Results were as follows:

MESHACH        645

SHADRACH      619

ABEDNEGO      616

Thank you so much to everybody involved in making this day a true success including every person who came along to support our little athletes. We would particularly like to thank the following people:

* All Reception, Year One Teachers and the ESO’s that helped on the day – we could not have done this without you!

* Ms Bronnie Lyrtzis and the P&F for organising the refreshments for the day.

Bethany Gold played a great tournament going undefeated through their pool. A tough loss to Cedar in the semi-final was hard for the boys after having such high expectations. They re-grouped and beat Tyndale SE in a great battle for third. I couldn’t be more proud of the boys for their team-first attitude and the contributions of every player.

Bethany Silver overcame some great challenges today. The day included some disappointments, some sighs of relief, plenty of excitement with even more determination and hard work. I was very proud of the boys efforts today and they were led particularly well by their captain, Rodante. Can’t wait for next year and what this team will accomplish.

2019 YEAR 4/5 & 6/7 SACSA NETBALL CARNIVAL

On Friday 1st November Bethany took 6 teams to the annual SACSA Netball Carnival held at the District Courts at Golden Grove. There were 69 teams across both Division 1 and Division 2 which was our biggest carnival this year in regards to team numbers. Bethany competed in Division 1 which was made up from the bigger schools across the state who compete in SACSA Carnivals. All our teams did really well in the very warm conditions on the day. A very special thank you to our scorers who assisted with their relevant teams all day – we couldn’t have done it without your support.

On the day of the carnival the girls arrived at school excited and determined in achieving the best result possible. Throughout the day they exhibited great skill, tenacity and team work seeing them finishing 2nd in their pool where they had only lost one game by a solitary goal. The crossover final unfortunately did not result in a win for the girls but they did not give up and played a good, clean, competitive game right to the end. Their last game for the day was playing for 3rd place which they achieved. Well done girls – you were all wonderful representatives of our school community.

6/7 Boys – 3rd Place

On a hot day the Year 6/7 boys had a fantastic SACSA tournament. Winning all but one of their pool games had them earn top spot on the ladder leading into finals. Unfortunately the semi-final didn’t go our way, narrowly losing by 2 goals. We won our final game which gave us third place overall. The boys competed hard all day and made their coach proud.
