Bethany Christian SchoolMENU
Welcome to our Week 5 newsletter for term 4. It is certainly feeling like the year is beginning to wrap up with special events in the lead up to Christmas. We have begun some transitions for our ELC students, and our Year 6 students who have visited Temple in preparation for next year. The process of transition for students is always made easier when we families speak positively about the opportunities that are ahead. I would encourage you to redirect your children to think positively about a Christmas break and the new friends they will make next year as they grow and mature.
We have classes enjoying a range of celebrations as they reflect on their learning this year. The Light in Christmas will be a community event for all to come and enjoy on Wednesday 6th December 5:30-7:30pm. Part of this event will include the opportunity for you to choose to show generosity to others who are less fortunate through our partnership with the Salvation Army. At the event we will have a large Christmas tree where we will collect donations for the Parafield Gardens Salvation Army to distribute to families in need. One of our values at Bethany is that of generosity and we would like to give you the option to give to others if you would like to. We have included a list of donation items below if you would like to contribute to help us to show the light in Christmas to our local community.
Many of our students have chosen to run a stall at our SRC Market Day this week. There is more information for you in the Deputy report. What a wonderful learning experience for those students who have chosen to develop their entrepreneurial skills.
All of our students will contribute to the Light in Christmas event with our ELC and Junior Primary students leading a parade and our Primary students creating products ranging from performances, decorations, displays and experiences. They are working together across classes, and sometimes year levels, to build their skills and capabilities of design, collaboration, and exhibition. This is a very helpful process to enable children to learn important skills for life, and, to take responsibility to create with others. We welcome you and your family and friends to come and enjoy this celebration and I am excited to see how children shine.
Our Year 6 and ELC graduations will be celebrated with family and friends in the last week of term. Our final assembly will be at 2pm on Wednesday 13th December, our final day of school. This will be livestreamed and then placed on a site for you to enjoy for the next week. We will notify parents/carers of those individual students who will be receiving awards so they can plan to watch it live.
Thank you for continuing to keep up bedtime routines as weekends become full of fun activities. We appreciate your support and we want to let you know that we continue to pray for you and your children that you would know the God of peace in this season.
Have a lovely weekend.

Welcome to week 5! Time is just flying by, and we have so many exciting events happening over the course of the next few weeks.
Market Day 17th November 1pm-1.30pm
This Friday, the 17th of November, our Student Representative Council (SRC) students are holding the 3rd annual Market Day. They have had 52 market submissions, making it the biggest Market Day yet. The market will be open to customers from 1pm-1.30pm. Parents and friends are most welcome to attend, but we do ask the students are left to run their own stalls. Any visitors to the market need to sign in at the front desk upon arrival.
The SRC students are looking forward to reporting back on the success of the Market Day in the next newsletter.
Staff vs Student Soccer Match
This week the SRC students held a staff vs student Soccer match. It was a very competitive, high energy game, with the students giving the staff team tough opposition. It looked like the student team were going to hold their own, with 2 goals being scored against the staff early in the match. However, the staff team took on the challenge and found their groove, scoring 3 goals, building the tension as the staff started to lead the game. It was a fierce battle for the soccer ball, and by the end of the game, the staff and students both had 3 goals, resulting in a draw. There were strong calls for a re-match later this term from both the staff and the students. The SRC will give a week or two for the staff to recover before setting a re-match date!
SAPSASA Cricket State Carnival
Congratulations to Janak and Colby on the SAPSASA Cricket success. Here is their report.
Colby and I attended the SAPSASA cricket state carnival, Division 5 for Para Districts. We were unbeaten throughout the 3 days. We played 2 matches on Tuesday and Wednesday the 7th and 8th of November, and then had 1 match, which was the Grand Final, on Thursday the 9th of November. On the Grand Final day Para Districts scored 225 runs in the first innings making them the first team in SAPSASA cricket to score over 200 in 1 match in Division 5. Colby and I opened in the Grand Final match (went into bat first). In the second innings, Para Districts bowled Murray Mallee out, for 118 runs to win the Grand Final. The Grand Final win was the first ever win for Para Districts. This is the second and final year for Colby and I to play SAPSASA cricket. We opened the batting last year, as well as this year, and we played a very crucial role in bringing our team to victory. As openers we played very well and executed our opportunity of being an opener correctly. We loved our experience of representing our school and team and I hope any future generations that do this will think the same. Thank you for bringing cricket as a part of the curriculum.

Last week our Year One students celebrated Grandparents Day. Each student invited their grandparents and it was wonderful to see so many attend.
Our students performed a song and then spent time reading and participating in activities with their grandparents.
Thank you to all the grandparents who attended and made the day special.

Student Reflections and Learning
On Wednesday the 25th of October, our ELC to Year 6 First Nations students shared about their family or culture with peers, parents and teachers. The following are some student reflections:
We went in the Library to talk about our culture, ancestors and elders with our friends. Some teachers and parents came too. We shared interesting and cool stories. I helped hand out muffins for morning tea and the Year 6s handed out tea and coffee. Then we played on the nature playground together. Next year I would like to document where all our First Nations families ancestors are from and make a display. We could learn to make some food from our cultures and teach others as well as games. We could create Aboriginal art on the walls.
Isaleli 5T
It was really cool that I could share about my culture. It was nice to sit down, have a hot chocolate and relax with my friends. It was also nice to hear and learn about other people’s culture.

The boys all played incredibly well all-day finishing 1st, 2nd, and 6th out of 20 teams. It was great being able to coach the team this year and we should all be proud of what they all achieved.
Mr Huntley
Wow! What an outstanding day for the girls table tennis teams today. They represented Bethany to the highest quality, demonstrating amazing effort, teamwork, and resilience all day long. The girls bronze team finished in 5th place with the gold and silver teams playing off in the grand final. Gold finishing in first place and Silver in second. Amazing effort by all the girls today, you should be super proud.
