Bethany Christian SchoolMENU
Welcome to week 5, Book Week! This week Book Week has been celebrated with a sale of novelty stationery items, an Art Competition, a Writing Competition and to top it all off, an SRC run gold coin fundraiser Dress-up Day on Friday 23rd August! Proceeds from this SRC fundraiser will go towards Hope Village Library and Giant games for our Bethany students to play with in the yard. The Giant Jenga and Giant Chess sets have been well loved and played with. The SRC cannot wait to buy more Giant games for the school to enjoy.
On Wednesday 21st August the SRC held a Staff vs Student Basketball match. It is always a well-attended lunch time activity and is a highly competitive game. I know the players thoroughly enjoy playing, and the spectators enjoy watching it just as much!
Last week the Year 5s held their Businesses at lunch times. There was such an array of foods and beverages on offer, and the students all loved purchasing items from them. We also had our school choir perform on Wednesday to Hammond Care, which was well received by the residents, who had even brought along their families to watch the performance! The Year 3s had an excursion to the Planetarium on Thursday 15th which was a fabulous day. To top it all off, they stayed after school for a movie and pizza dinner.
Term 3 has seen quite an increase in the numbers of illnesses within the school, with COVID, Influenza A and RSV doing the rounds. We have been encouraging excellent hygiene in the school, with catching sneezes in tissues or into the elbow rather than our hands, washing our hands after toileting and before eating, and making sure that we are wearing our jumpers when it is cold. I know that many of us are finding it difficult to book our children into see a GP because the demand is so high to see a doctor. We have been recommending parents to use the Child and Adolescent Virtual URGENT Care Service which is a service offered by the Women’s and Children’s Hospital. From the feedback given to the school by parents who have used the service, they have found it to be an excellent service and would recommend it to other parents.
You can use the link https://www.wch.sa.gov.au/patients-visitors/emergencies/virtual-urgent-care to access the service. It is primarily for those children who are well enough to avoid going to the hospital, and parents will find that they will speak virtually with a member of the administrative team as you would in the Emergency Department, then you will be directed to an Emergency Nurse who will do an initial assessment of your child, then refer you to another service. In the event you require a doctor, you will get to speak to an emergency doctor who will then assess your child and provide their expert advice.
Mini Olympics is coming up Friday 30th August, which is in week 6. I know all of the Junior Primary classes have been practicing the skills to be used in Mini Olympics during their weekly PE classes. It all looks like a lot of fun! Coming up in Week 6 is our Father’s Day stall. More information regarding the stall will be sent home shortly.
In Week 7 we have our Pupil Free Day for the show on Friday 6th September. Camp Australia will be open for you to book your child into if needed.
Wishing you a terrific week and I am praying that you and your families all stay healthy.
God bless you,
Deb Clifford

On Wednesday the 14th of August the Year 3 - 6 members of our Bethany choir were delighted at the opportunity to perform their songs at Hammond Care (Daw Park). Hammond Care is a care facility to assist those living with Dementia. The residents had a wonderful time as they enjoyed our Bethany choir perform their new songs at the weekly chapel service. The pastoral worker at Hammond reported back that many were “very moved” by the performance and would love to see the students back in the future! The Hammond residents had prepared a little thank you treat for each student as they left. Sadly, we know that many residents in aged care facilities do not receive any visitors at all, so this was an amazing opportunity for our students to bless these wonderful elders.
God bless you,
Joy Starling
Please note that the Uniform Shop will be closed from Monday 5th August as we transfer to a new supplier. It will re-open on Wednesday 28th August. See below for the new opening times.
Online orders will still be available. Please be aware that not all items are currently available, the full selection will be available when the new uniform shop is fully operational.
On Thursday Week 4, the year 3s went on an excursion to the Planetarium. When the year 3s got there they had recess and then did a few other things. One of those other things were that we watched a movie called Tycho Goes To Mars. When we got back we had dinner which was pizza and chips. My favourite thing was that we got to play soccer.
Abraham
I loved when we were given the privilege to go to the University Planetarium. It felt like I was in a mansion, and it was so spectacular! I learnt that Uranus is so much further away from the sun than to the other planets. My favourite part was getting to touch a meteorite.
Nina
First, we went to the Planetarium and saw some cool stuff. I learnt that the moon is very tiny compared to the sun. After that we watched a movie and then we had dinner together. For dinner we had chips and pizza and played on the playground with our friends.
Willow
First, we went to the Planetarium and did 6 activities and watched a small movie. I learnt that Neptune takes 80 years to orbit the sun. When we were at school all of the Year 3’s were allowed to play on the playground. We had dinner with chips and pizza and a lot of fun.

This week is Book Week and our students enjoyed a variety of activities in the library. Every day there was Story Time with a guest reader, there was colouring activities, some lunch time fun stations with the Year 5 and 6 students as well as the stationery sales.
This year’s Mini Olympics (Reception - Year 2) is fast approaching! This is a great time for all the students to showcase their growing physical abilities.
The Mini Olympics will be held on the school’s oval on Friday 30th August (Week 6, Term 3).
More information will be updated on the Sports Events Page as we get closer to the event.
SAPSASA will be holding a Tennis Carnival soon, for years 3 and 4.
This will be on Tuesday 17th September Week 9 Term 3 at the Golden Grove Tennis Club.
There are two divisions in this tournament: a pathways division (more competitive) and a participation division (less competitive). This year Bethany will be taking part in the participation division and taking one team which is capped at 10 players. The team needs to be made up of boys and girls. We welcome any students from year 3 or 4 to register their interest, priority will be given to any students who are part of a tennis club outside of school or have some tennis experience. There will not be a scheduled tryout or trainings before the carnival. As this is the first year we have been given the opportunity for this tennis tournament, we are just gauging interest and hope to develop further in future years.
Please complete the online form should your child like to register. Like other events students will take a bus from school and return before the end of the school day.
Teams will be emailed out to all parents and will be placed in the student common area. The permission form for the parents of the successful students will be sent via the school's app. All notifications will be made via the app, or emailed directly, so please download and sign up to the BCS App.
