Bethany Christian SchoolMENU
Welcome to our Week 5 newsletter for Term 2!
The cold weather has arrived after a very mild autumn. It is a timely reminder that we need to keep up our healthy routines to avoid illness and to keep learning.
Our Sports Centre is progressing well and it is exciting to see it taking shape as the walls go up! Thank you for your help in the pick-up and drop off times, we really appreciate your patience.
You would have received the Salisbury Council plans to provide additional drop off space in front of Temple Christian College. This project will take place from next week and although it will add some additional challenges for the time it is being constructed, we will see an improvement in the traffic flow once it is completed. It is one of those times where short-term pain will give long term gain. We are grateful to the Salisbury Council for their help in improving traffic flow and safety around our school.
Next week we have a pupil free day on Friday 6th June prior to the King’s birthday long weekend. This will provide students with two 4-day weeks which gives them the opportunity to rest and be refreshed ready to finish the term well.
Our teachers are currently writing learning reports for your children which you will receive at the end of term. This is one way that we share progress and give you information about what children are learning.
Another way we will be sharing with you is through our Exhibition of Learning which will take place on Wednesday 25th June. For the last few weeks our students have been preparing something to share with you. A whole-school approach allows us to learn together and to show how learning is both about knowledge and about how we learn it. We've been using learning badges to give a voice to the important learning dispositions and skills that help us to grow. We are really looking forward to sharing this with you!
Our Junior Primary (Reception, Year 1 & Year 2) will be open from 3:10-4:10pm. Our ELC children’s work will be open 5-6pm and our Primary (Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 & Year 6) students will be present to share their learning with you from 5:30-6:30pm. We ask that you bring your students along ready to share in their year level exhibition. We will encourage you to ask questions and interact with our Primary students as they present their learning and their reflections to you. This will be another wonderful opportunity for our students to grow!
This Friday we are holding a special Reconciliation Week assembly on Friday afternoon. You are welcome to attend. It begins at 2pm in the Performing Arts Centre and we ask that you sign in via the front office.
This term we have several excursions taking place. Thank you for your support of these and for those volunteers who have completed the appropriate checks and are going along to help. If you are interested in volunteering, please speak to the front office for more information.
On Monday and Tuesday this week I was able to attend the National Policy Forum run by Christian Schools Australia in Canberra. We had a range of speakers who brought information and shared the challenge of current issues facing Christian schooling in Australia. They also shared ways that we can continue to give parents the choice to educate children in our schools. We have a great community at Bethany and we want to continue to express our faith and work in partnership with families as we excel in Christian education and character, inspiring greatness, while serving communities and impacting nations. We appreciate all you do to work with us and to see children flourish!
Have a lovely weekend
God bless you
Wendy Matear
Principal
Christ is the visible likeness of the invisible God. He is the first born Son, superior to all created things.

It’s hard to believe we are already halfway through the term! The weeks are flying by, and it’s been wonderful to see so much engagement, learning and fun happening across our school.
A highlight this fortnight was the Year 1 excursion to the zoo, where students had the opportunity to explore a wide variety of animal habitats. It was a joy to see our young learners making real-world connections with what they’ve been learning in class—observing how each habitat supports the specific needs of different animals and discussing how environments are designed with care and purpose.
Our Student Representative Council (SRC) have also had an exciting start to the term! They thoughtfully decided how to spend the funds raised in Term 1, purchasing six water activity play tables for our younger students, a small wooden sand activity seating table and some fantastic new play equipment for the Undercover Area (UCA), including giant Connect Four and Noughts and Crosses games. These new resources will provide wonderful opportunities for imaginative and social play during break times.
Another exciting highlight has been the SRC-organised Year 5/6 Students vs Staff Volleyball Match. The game was filled with good-natured competitiveness and plenty of laughter, as both teams gave it their all. It was wonderful to see students and staff connecting through sport, with great energy and encouragement from the sidelines. After a fun and lively match, the staff team came out on top with a final score of 47 to 36. A huge well done to all players and a big thank you to the SRC for organising such a fantastic event enjoyed by everyone!
We’re also proud to share that our school has received a Champion School Award from the Commissioner for Children and Young People. This award recognises our consistent participation in the Student Voice Postcards initiative since 2019. This initiative gives our students a platform to share their ideas and perspectives—and this recognition reflects our whole-school commitment to student voice and agency. The award will be proudly displayed in the administration foyer.
As the weather continues to cool, we kindly remind families to ensure students bring their clearly named school jumper each day. We’ve accumulated a number of jumpers in our lost and found—having names on them makes it so much easier for us to return them to their rightful owners.
Just a reminder about our FREE Parent Workshop around Supporting Children with Neurodiversity coming up on Wednesday June 11th at 3.15pm. Rebecca Starling is an Educational Consultant and Family Therapist who will be helping parents develop tools and strategies to support their ASD and ADHD children thrive in the school environment. Please see the flyer further down for more information.
Thank you for your ongoing support. Wishing you and your families a warm and wonderful week ahead!
God bless you,
Deb Clifford
Deputy Principal
On Friday of week 3 our Year 1 students recently enjoyed an exciting and educational excursion to the zoo as part of their Science learning. The focus of the day was on observing animal habitats and discovering the things animals need to survive.
With curious minds switched on, students explored a variety of enclosures and observed animals in environments that mimic their natural habitats. They noticed how different animals rely on food, water, shelter, and space to stay healthy and safe. From watching playful meerkats in their burrows to spotting sleepy koalas nestled in eucalyptus trees, there were plenty of fascinating moments to enjoy and learn from!
The students asked thoughtful questions and made wonderful connections with what they have been learning in class. It was a fantastic day of hands-on learning, full of discovery, excitement, and of course—lots of animal fun!
A big thank you to our wonderful parent helpers and zoo staff who made the day run so smoothly. What a wild and wonderful way to learn about the needs of living things!
National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. We all have a role to play when it comes to reconciliation, and in playing our part, we collectively build relationships and communities that value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories, cultures, and futures.
Our celebrations for National Reconciliation Week are well underway! Students have been engaging in learning experiences that, in contrast to the past, help us all to develop and express a commitment to seeking reconciliation and building right relationships with First Nations peoples. As part of this learning, some classes will have the opportunity to participate in cultural cooking and dancing workshops led by Australian Cultural Services. If you haven't already, please take a drive down Countess Street to see our growing 'reconciliation garden' where each student has put their hand up to be part of a positive change in our community.
Our week of learning will culminate in a whole school Reconciliation Assembly in the PAC from 2-3pm (Friday 30th May). During this assembly, families and friends are invited to hear our students share their learning and see a dance performance from those who attended the dance workshops. If you haven't already engaged in National Reconciliation Week, maybe we'll see you there?!
Kind regards,
The RAP Team
It was another beautiful sunny day for the SACSA Cross Country event this year. All the students showed a great attitude, commitment and gave their all in their running event. It was great to see so much cheering and support for one another, which helped push everyone along. Congratulations to Esther M, Hannah M and Harper F for winning the under 9s team award. Well done Bethany team!
