Bethany Christian SchoolMENU
Welcome to our Week 5 Newsletter. We have found ourselves at the halfway point of the term with an unusually warm stretch of weather. This has led us to postpone our Athletics Day (Year 3, 4, 5 & 6 students). This will now be held on Friday 15th March with the hope that it will be a little cooler. It is always difficult to predict the weather and so we will do our best to provide students with the opportunity to compete, allowing them to qualify for selections to represent our school in further athletics events.
Next week our Year 3 and Year 5 students will sit their NAPLAN tests. These are a snapshot of student learning on those particular days and are used to highlight trends, strengths and weaknesses. We encourage students to do their best and not to see this as a big event. If your child is feeling anxious, I would encourage you to let your class teacher know so that they can support you. We also have a student counsellor who is available to support students in a range of situations including anxiety. Once again, you can let your teacher know if you would like to explore this support.
Next week Occupational Therapist, Charles McGrath, will be running a series of sessions for parents and children on how to deal with meltdowns and support regulation. This is a free course that runs for 4 weeks on Wednesdays after school in the Function Room. You are most welcome to come along and bring your children to learn together more about this important and relevant topic. See further details under the Deputy's Corner.
Easter is approaching quickly, and we have been discussing ways to celebrate the joy of Easter together. We are planning two special Chapel services that we would like to invite you to attend. They will be held on Wednesday 3rd April, the week after Easter at 1:40pm for Junior Primary (Reception, Year 1 & 2) and 2:20pm for Primary (Year 3, 4, 5 & 6) students. Each year level will share how they have explored the Joy of Easter. This will be held in the Performing Arts Centre and free tickets will be available soon. Students will watch a dress rehearsal earlier in the day and so they will not need tickets. This is a new way to celebrate and we hope that you will be able to come along. We will also record the two Chapel’s so that you can watch them later with your children if you are unable to attend. Your class teacher will share more information with you as they work with students to shape these events.
I would like to remind you that we dismiss students early for Easter, 12.10pm on Thursday 28th March. Our first day back next term Monday 29th April is a pupil free day and OSHC will be available.
We have school dental visits later this term. This is a free service that uses your Medicare funding to provide general dental care, please refer to the flyer in this newsletter for more information. Parent teacher interviews will be held on Thursday 4th and Tuesday 9th April. Our Year 3 and Year 4 students have swimming lessons 8th to 12th April, our last week of term. If you need more information, please contact your class teacher.
Please also be aware that this weekend we have a long weekend with a Monday public holiday. I pray that you will find ways to be refreshed and have fun as a family.

Principal
Welcome to Week 5, halfway point of Term 1! After quite a stretch of mild weather in January and February, March has seen the thermometer rise considerably and this has necessitated the postponement of our primary Athletics Day and the SRC run Staff vs Student Netball competition. Both events will now occur in Week 6. Please encourage your child to drink plenty of water and remind them to wear their hats while at school. Their teachers will be encouraging them to remain hydrated, to keep in the shade and to wear their hats while at school. On days of extreme temperatures, we will keep the students indoors to keep them cool.
Uniform
Our ACTS student leadership team have begun the Uniform Competition and the Tidy School Competition. At the end of the week, a class that has had the cleanest outdoors area will win the Tidy School's ‘Golden Wheelie Bin’, and the class who has the highest number of students wearing their uniforms correctly throughout the week will win the ‘Chalise of Excellence’ for consistent correct uniform. These prizes are handed out each Monday at Monday Morning Praise.
If you are unsure of the uniform requirements for our summer uniform, in Terms 1 and 4, please go to pages 15 – 17 of the 2024 Student Diary. I would encourage you to speak to your child’s teacher if you have a question about the school uniform. Our uniform shop is also a very good source of information about our school uniform.
Managing Meltdowns Parent Workshops
As mentioned in our last Newsletter, we would like to invite you to "Managing Meltdowns". We have been able to access funding to provide 4 free sessions for this workshop. We have a qualified Occupational Therapist running these sessions straight after pick up on Wednesdays from 3.15pm to 4.00pm in the Function Room. It is for parents and children together. If you are interested, please see the flyer below for details on how to book in. You and your child are welcome to come along.
The dates for the workshops are:
Wednesday March 13th
Wednesday March 20th
Wednesday March 27th
Wednesday April 3rd
I pray that all of you will enjoy your long weekend, and don’t melt in what is looking like a very warm long weekend. May you have a wonderful opportunity to spend time with your family.

Camp Medication
Our Year 5 students are going on their camp in Week 8, Monday to Wednesday. The school will pack the medication that has been provided to the school. However, if your child is on any regular medication that needs to be administered in the evening, night or in the morning, please provide the medication along with a management plan or medication authority form signed by a doctor and the parent by Wednesday 13th of March 2024. The following details need to be included: name of the child, medication name, dose, time to administer and any special instructions. All medications including antihistamines, Panadol and any other over the counter medication/herbal medications need to have a doctor’s note. The school will not be able to administer any medication without the doctor's authorisation form, as per the school policy. If the medication is not provided by the end of Week 6 the child may not be able to attend camp. If you have any concerns, please contact the school on 8283 0000.
God bless you,

Sibling Priority for 2026
If your child is due to start Reception with us here at Bethany Christian School in 2026 and you have not received a 2026 Enrolment Pack in the past few weeks, please ensure you call the school and speak to the Enrolment Officer to secure your child’s position. Interviews to fill our 2026 Reception classes will commence in May and a secured position may not be available after this time.
Withdrawal Policy
Should you decide to transfer your children to another school, then the school requires written notification one term in advance of the withdrawal of your children. This enables the school to plan ahead with possible enrolments to replace your children. If written notification is not given, then one term’s fees will be charged as per the Withdrawal Policy which is signed at the time of enrolment.

Enrolment Officer
Bethany Christian School’s Inter-House Athletics Carnival is fast approaching and will be held on:
Friday 15th March | Week 6, Term 1 (Back Up)
Shadach, Meshach and Abednego will again go head to head to see which house can tally the most points to win the House Shield, so make sure you are there!
Depending upon the year they were born in they will be in the following age group:
While giving everyone a chance to participate, we use this as a guide to help select our SAPSASA and SACSA Athletics squads, so those students who wish to be selected will need to try their best at this event.
Once again we will be using the web based program ReadyGo to administer our Athletics Day, so please use the link below to find the program.
A guest code (to access the information) will be sent to parents closer to the event, there is no need to register for an account.
More information will be updated on the Sports Events Page as we get closer to the event.

On Monday 4th March we took Ashton, Sophie, Grace and Emily to the SA Aquatic and Leisure Centre. The team supported and encouraged each other to do their best. The atmosphere was sensational and the team went on to achieve some outstanding results. As coaches we really enjoyed seeing the effort the students put in and and how composed each student was. Thanks for a great day team!
