Bethany Christian SchoolMENU
Welcome to our Week 3 Newsletter. Last Friday our students enjoyed an incursion with Scott Darlow. He used storytelling, humour and songs to help us understand more about Indigenous Australia. We have several families in our school from this cultural heritage and it was awesome to hear the excitement and pride of students who were celebrating their Indigenous heritage. Our Cultural Celebration will be held in Week 8 of this term and will showcase a range of cultures as well as have expressions from students reflecting their families’ stories. We are really excited to see how this comes together and values all of our stories as well as our combined story at Bethany Christian School. Please refer to the Highlights section for more details.
The new play area and security fence has finally been installed. This will no longer be an entry or exit for our school. This provides improved security during school hours as it will be locked. Temple students and staff will only access this area when a teacher is there to unlock this gate. Please make sure that if you are visiting school during school hours that you sign in at the front office to keep all of our students safe.
This year for Book Week we celebrate literature using the message that “Reading is my Secret Power”. We dress up every other year and this year there is no dress up, instead, we are holding a book fair August 20th—26th with books available for purchase. There will also be a range of interactive lunchtime activities held in the library for students to experience.
Show Day is on Friday 30th August. We ask that if you will attend the Royal Adelaide Show with your child that you either choose this day or use a weekend day. If you need care for your child on this day, OSHC will be available.
Later this term, we will enjoy Jump Rope for Heart and will also have Parent Teacher Interviews. Our Year 2 and Year 3 students will have their swimming lessons in Week 10. More information will be sent home closer to that time.
Finally, I have an exciting announcement of a staffing change. Mrs Jacqui Gliddon has worked at Bethany over many years in a number of teaching roles and has made many valuable contributions to our school community. Last week, she was successful in winning an ELC Director position at Good Shepherd Lutheran School at Para Vista. Jacqui has recently studied her Master of Early Childhood and has been working in our Junior Primary and ELC. This has been an answer to prayer for her to move into this challenging and exciting leadership role. It is bitter sweet for our Bethany community knowing that she is moving on, but, it is so exciting to see people released into the things they know are a part of their purpose in the world. We have a few weeks of transition as Jacqui begins work with her new school and she will finish her time at our Cultural Celebration in Week 8.
We also congratulate Mrs Hannah Sutherland and Ms Jasmine Burfield who will cover this change. They are both teachers who know these students and have been working within our school.
I pray that you have a restful weekend.
God bless,
Wendy Matear

Memory Verse
Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.

Scott Darlow
Last week Scott Darlow, a Melbourne based singer/songwriter, visited Bethany Christian School to work with our students. He is an ambassador for our Indigenous culture, and he uses music as a tool to educate young people about our Indigenous culture. He also challenges students to help facilitate reconciliation and understanding, while broadening our understanding of the Indigenous culture. He was extremely well received by our students, who thoroughly enjoyed Scott’s singing, stories and humour as he spoke about his Indigenous background and about Australia’s Indigenous history. The story told on the Yadaki (Indigenous word for digeridoo) about Scott and his dog hunting was particularly amusing, and Scott does apologise to you if your children are now practicing playing the yadaki using your vacuum pipe!
To find out more information about Scott Darlow, or to listen to his music, you can check out his website, https://www.scottdarlow.com/or https://australianstogether.org.au/scott-darlow/ .
The NED Show
On Wednesday 7th August, the NED Show once again performed for our school. NED, standing for; Never give up; Encourage others and; Do your best; is a motivational performance encouraging a growth mindset through comedy and sensational yo-yo tricks. A yo-yo sale will be held at school from Thursday 8th of August (Week 3) to Wednesday 14th August (Week 4). Prices for the NED yo-yo’s range from $8 - $20. For further information, please contact the front office.
I do wish you and your families a wonderful week.
God bless you,
Debbie Clifford
