Week 3Term 22025

Year 6 Camp

From the Principal

Welcome to our Week 3 newsletter for Term 2. Happy Mother’s Day for last weekend!

On Friday morning, we invited our Junior Primary mums to celebrate and show that we appreciate the role mums play in the lives of our children. It was a time to gather over a coffee and a muffin (Muffins for Mums) and to say thank you as we know how challenging and rewarding the role can be. It was great to see so many of you gathered to enjoy this special event.

I am excited to let you know about an upcoming event on Wednesday 25th June. It is a whole school event that will use some different times to showcase learning across the school. It will be an opportunity for you to come along and see what your child is working on to improve themselves as learners.

As a learning community we have created several resources that focus on developing learners. We see the role of education to not only give knowledge but to also develop skills, capabilities, and learning dispositions that will enable young people to become all that God has created them to be. This event is an Exhibition of Learning and will provide opportunities for you to come and see a range of things. Our Junior Primary classrooms will be open between 3:10-4:10pm, our ELC will be open from 5:00-6:00pm and our Primary classes will be open between 5:30-6:30pm. These times will allow for you to drop in and see what your children have been learning together. You will receive more specific information closer to the event, but we wanted to give you enough notice to make time to be here. We are very excited to share this learning with you.

Bethany continues to work with international thought leaders to develop our understandings and it was wonderful last Tuesday to have Valerie Hannon, author of “Thrive: The Purpose of Schools in a Changing World,” from the UK visit us. Her work inspires education systems to re-think what success will mean in the 21st Century. She was invited to give us feedback on the work we have been creating and it was very encouraging to hear her share that ‘Bethany was a school she would send her own grandchildren’.

On Friday 6th June we have a Pupil Free day for our students. This is prior to the King’s Birthday long weekend. OSHC is available for those who need to book for care on that day.

I hope that you have a lovely weekend.

God bless you

Wendy Matear

Principal

Therefore, since we have been made right in God's sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us.

Deputy's Corner

I hope all families had a wonderful Mother’s Day, celebrating the incredible mums, carergivers, and significant people who support and care for our students every day. Last week also saw our Year 6 students return from an unforgettable school camp. With beautiful weather on our side, students embraced every experience with enthusiasm—from adventurous physical activities to quiet reflection, laughter and beautiful praise and worship around the campfire. It was a joy to witness students encouraging one another and giving their all, even when activities pushed them beyond their comfort zones. Their resilience, teamwork and positive attitude was truly impressive.

Back at school, our Student Representative Council (SRC) have been working hard to make meaningful contributions to our school and wider community. The SRC is currently finalising the purchase of sand tables for our Junior Primary playground, which will provide wonderful opportunities for creative and collaborative play. They are also organising a giant Connect 4 game for our Primary students to enjoy in the undercover area (UCA), and have committed to a donation that will support the development of the Hope Village school library in Sumatra. Their leadership and initiative are having a genuine impact, and we are so proud of the thoughtfulness and care they bring to their roles.

Coming up later this term on Wednesday June 11th, we are holding a FREE Parent Workshop around Supporting Children with Neurodiversity. Rebecca Starling is an Educational Consultant and Family Therapist who will be helping parents develop tools and strategies to support their ASD and ADHD children thrive in the school environment. Please see the flyer further down for more information.

As always, thank you for your ongoing support. We’re so grateful for the strong partnerships we share with our families and community. I wish you all a terrific week ahead!

God bless you,

Deb Clifford
Deputy Principal

Highlights

Year 6 Camp

On the 7th - 9th of May, you may have noticed the Year 6s went to Mylor Adventure Camp! We went to make memories, bond with friends, make new ones on the way and to experience new things out of our comfort zones!

We did fun activities together such as the giant swing, flying fox, bridge building, raft making, challenge obstacle course and archery tag. We were going to have a bonfire, but the drought stopped that from happening sadly. Instead, we stacked up Jenga blocks and stuck artificial candles on them. We gave praise to God like we do at MMP. The bus ride was an hour long but totally worth the wait. On the 1st day, we brought our own recess and lunch, but we were blessed with delicious food for dinner and dessert. The staff were lovely and really nice. Our host, Jed, was really funny and kind. We learnt a game called Gaga ball (no, it has nothing to do with Lady Gaga!) which is basically Slap Ball in a little wooden dome and you can’t touch the walls. Overall, Year 6 camp was really fun and a great way to get outside.

Izzy B & Henny H

All the Year 6s went to camp on the 7th to the 9th of May. We went to Mylor Adventure Camp so we can step out of our comfort zone, make new friends, memories and to have a break from school.

My best highlight of camp was when we went on the giant swing, flying fox and raft making in the swimming pool and the best part was we got to have free time in the pool!

I was not confident but now I am because I went to Year 6 camp and I faced my fears of heights and getting away from home. I really recommend this camp when you get in Year 6. Overall Mylor Adventure Camp was so much fun and it was a good bonding time with my friends and other people.

Ariana D and Amali T

My name is Daniel, and on the 7th of May 2025 we went on an unforgettable camp to Mylor Adventure Camp in the Hills. From the moment we arrived, I felt excited to explore the outdoors and try new activities. We took part in team-building games, hiked through the bush, which was both challenging and fun. One of my favourite moments was sitting around the campfire at night praising and worshiping with my friends. The cabins were cosy, and the food was great too. I enjoyed learning more about myself and others during our sleeping times. The leaders were friendly and encouraging, making sure everyone felt safe and included. This camp helped me build confidence, make new friends, and create memories. It was a great experience that I’ll never forget!

National Reconciliation Week 2025

National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. We all have a role to play when it comes to reconciliation, and in playing our part, we collectively build relationships and communities that value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories, cultures, and futures.

This year Bethany Christian School will be celebrating National Reconciliation Week throughout Term 2, Week 5. Students will engage in learning experiences that, help students to develop and express a commitment to seeking reconciliation and building right relationships with First Nations peoples. As part of this learning, some classes will have the opportunity to participate in cultural cooking and dancing workshops led by Australian Cultural Services.

The week of learning will culminate in a whole school Reconciliation Assembly in the PAC from 2-3pm on Friday 30th May. During this assembly, families and friends are invited to hear our students share their learning and see a dance performance from those who attended the dance workshops.

Kind regards,

The RAP Team

SAPSASA Cross Country Report

In beautiful sunny conditions our students represented our school well both on and off the track. Each student did their best to cover the distance in the shortest possible time. Cross Country is inherently challenging and was fantastic to see the students embrace this challenge. There were multiple students who achieved results in the top three. Every student showed great grit and effort and despite it being an individual event all students worked well as a team. Well done Cross Country team!
