Bethany Christian SchoolMENU
Welcome to our newsletter for week 3. Our students continue to settle in to new routines and we take some time to establish clear expectations that allow for learning through good relationships. Our vision to excel in Christian education and character takes time and effort and we appreciate your partnership in this long-term process. Thank you for those of you who were able to attend the Meet the Teacher Evening last week. It was a very warm evening, and we were glad to see so many of you connecting with teachers to start the year together. One of the things that we showed was a short video showing the building project and sharing our excitement over the new sports facility that we are building. We received approval late in December from Salisbury Council to move ahead with this project. We have included a link to this video for you to watch, which includes information about parking, drop off, pick up and also some concept pictures of what the building will look like.
We do ask that you consider the impact this building project is having on our neighbours. We want to be respectful by asking you to avoid parking in or across driveways and to look out for yellow lines that note no parking. We will continue to work with the Salisbury Council who will be visiting at pick up times to make sure that everyone stays safe. Please allow enough time so that you are not rushed or stressed at these important times. We are suggesting that you arrive ‘just in time’ for pick up as this helps to reduce wait times for everyone. The rear carpark is a kiss and drop only as it is a building zone up until 3:10pm. Thank you for your help in following these parking protocols and for representing us well with our neighbours. We really appreciate it.
Last Friday we held our Cross County and the weather remained cooler which made it an enjoyable day. We have our Primary Athletics Carnival on Friday 7th March. Parents and carers of our primary classes, Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 & Year 6, will receive specific information about this day. You are most welcome to come along and enjoy the day.
Our Year 5 students will head off to camp later this term and our Year 3 & Year 4 students will have swimming lessons in the final week of term. This year, Easter is during the school break and so our term finishes at the usual time of 3:10pm.
Thank you once again for partnering with us as we continue to learn together and excel in Christian education and character, inspiring greatness, while serving communities and impacting nations.
God bless you,
Wendy Matear
Principal
God loved the people of this world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who has faith in him will have eternal life and never really die.

You may have started to hear the buzz word of ‘friendology’ from your child at home. Friendology is a school wide programme designed by URSTRONG to teach social and emotional skills around friendships. I’m sure you will start to hear the terms, “friendship fire”, “mean on purpose” and “friendship ninjas”. Everything taught is aimed to equip your child to resolve conflict within friendships and build confidence to navigate friendships and the challenges working with others so often presents.
All parents are welcome to check out the free resources provided by URSTRONG. Check out the website https://urstrong.com/parents/ and sign up for free access to the Friendology material. If you have any further questions about Friendology, please speak to your child’s teacher.
This week’s school value is grace, and in chapel the topics of grace and forgiveness were explored. This connects with the theme of forgiveness currently being covered by URSTRONG. The article can be found below.
In our Friendology curriculum, URSTRONG Schools help students spot strengths in themselves & their friends in our fun, character-building activities!
According to VIA Institute of Character, we all possess 24 Character Strengths in different degrees. Everyone has a different mixture or combination of strengths; some representing our top strengths (often called Signature Strengths).
With our theme of FORGIVENESS this month, we’re getting students to reflect on the concept of “extending an olive branch” (like the little guys are demonstrating in the image). This ties in so well with conversations around reconciliation, along with the idea of peace offerings. So many Teachable Moments!
After a Friendship Fire®, moving from Talk-it-Out to Forgive & Forget on the Friend-o-Cycle can take time. Kids also share that it can “feel awkward” for a while. One easy strategy to speed things up is by “extending an olive branch”. A few examples include:
Forgiveness is such a big, layered topic and there’s so much to unpack with students! Parents can reinforce these lessons at home with this activity: What is Forgiveness? We love the ways our URSTRONG Schools & URSTRONG Families are helping kids move forward after Friendship Fires® to get their friendships back in the Green-Zone on the Friend-o-Meter!

I wish you a fabulous week.

Camp
The Year 5s are going on their camp in Week 8 of Term 1 from Wednesday 26th March 2025 to Friday 28th March 2025. The school will pack the medication that has been provided to the school. If your child needs any medication that needs to be administered, please make arrangements to prepare the medication along with a management plan or medication authority signed by a doctor by Week 6 Friday 14th March. All medications including over the counter medication/herbal medications need to have a doctor’s note. If you have any concerns please do not hesitate to contact the school nurse on 8283 0000.
Medication and Medical Conditions
It is important to update the school with any medical condition your child has regardless of its severity. If your child suffers from any medical condition and needs medication to be administered at school, provide the school with the appropriate medication (with in expiry date) along with the management plan. The school does not administer any medication without the doctors authorization.
Remember to speak to us if you need any assistance in taking care of your children’s health care needs. Together we can develop a health care plan to help our student’s wellbeing.

Sibling Priority for 2027
If your younger child is due to start Reception with us here at Bethany Christian School in 2027, please ensure you call the school and speak to the Enrolment Officer to secure your child’s position. Interviews to fill our 2027 Reception classes will commence soon and a secured position may not be available after this time.
Withdrawal Policy
Should you decide to transfer your children to another school, then the school requires written notification one term in advance of the withdrawal of your children. This enables the school to plan ahead with possible enrolments to replace your children. If written notification is not given, then one term’s fees will be charged as per the Withdrawal Policy which is signed at the time of enrolment.

Bethany Christian School’s Inter-House Athletics Carnival is fast approaching and will be held on:
Friday 7th March | Week 5, Term 1 (with Friday 21st March as the back up date)
Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego will again go head to head to see which house can tally the most points to win the House Shield, in what will be a fun day!
Depending upon the year they were born in they will be in the following age group:
While giving everyone a chance to participate, we use this as a guide to help select our SAPSASA and SACSA Athletics squads, so those students who wish to be selected will need to try their best at this event.
Once again we will be using the web based program ReadyGo to administer our Athletics Day, so please use the link below to find the program.
A guest code (to access the information) will be sent to parents closer to the event, there is no need to register for an account.
More information will be updated on the Sports Events Page as we get closer to the event.
On a much cooler day to what we had in the previous few days, we held our annual Cross-Country Event on Friday the 14th of February. These conditions made it ideal for Cross Country! Depending upon their age, all students showed a great attitude as they either walked or ran various distances of 1, 2 or 3kms.
Congratulations to Shadrach who were House Champions for 2025!
Thank you must go to the helpers who made this day possible!
Mr Hannaford, Mrs Clifford, Mr Grieger, Mr Peterson, Miss Taylor, Mr Goldney, Mrs Curtis, Mr Mabikafola, Mrs Schultz, Mr Richter, Mrs Wilson, Mrs Hall, Mr Huntley, Mr Wyten, Mr Carr and Mr Nottle who made the day run smoothly and helped students enjoy the event.
