Bethany Christian SchoolMENU
Welcome to our Week 3 Newsletter. We have had a very settled start with many of our staff noticing how well students have engaged in the start of year at school. In walking through classrooms, a number of students did discuss that they were quite tired and so I would encourage you to consider how to have regular early bedtimes to keep your child healthy, refreshed and ready for their learning each day.
It was wonderful to see our Cross Country event last Friday with our Year 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6 students running around a track to raise money but also to build their fitness. It was a very pleasant temperature last Friday and it was great to see the positive attitudes students showed as they participated and cheered each other on. It was also lovely to have a more normal feeling event with parents able to come along and cheer with us.
We have our Senior and Junior Athletics Days coming up in Week 5. These include students from Year 2, Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6. The students are organised according to their age to allow for future participation in combined athletics events. We will give you specific information about which day your child will be participating and all of the other details you will need. We will also let you know how parents can come along to watch these days. We will ensure that there are parent spaces that allow you to come along and watch your child in safe outside spaces where you can maintain the 1.5m distance. This means that you will only need to scan the SA Gov QR code and masks will not be required.
Thank you so much for your diligence with scanning each time you come on site and for being prepared with a mask if you are entering. This really helps us to remain accessible before and after school. We also thank you for your patience as you drop off and pick up children at those peak times. It really helps when everyone adheres to the road rules and behaves in a courteous way.
We will soon begin our enrolment interview for Reception 2023 and so if you have younger siblings in the family, please remember to let us know via the office to ensure that you don’t miss out. We also ask that if you have changed a telephone number, emergency contact number or address that you update this either through the office or using the Bethany app. Last newsletter we gave some detailed instructions regarding how to download and set up the app so please look back or make contact with us for help.
We also want to thank you for creating your account for school fees. Most families have now done this and I am sure you can see the benefit of having access to your own account and keeping track of where you are up to with your payments. If you would like help with this, please contact the Finance Department who are very happy to support you through this set up process.
Thank you to those who were able to attend our Meet the Teacher Night. It was wonderful to see parents connecting with teachers and hearing how some of those general expectations will work for 2021.
Our Year 5 students head off to camp next week at Illawonga. It is a riverside venue with many outdoor experiences that students enjoy each year. I look forward to hearing from those students on their return and sharing some highlights with you.
I pray that you have a restful weekend as the weather cools down.
God bless,
Wendy Matear
Principal
Welcome to Week 3 of Term 1. It has been a wonderful start to 2021 so far, and it has been terrific to see all our students slip back into a school routine so well.
Sleep
The weather has certainly warmed up over the past few weeks, and combined with the return to school, it’s important to help our children get sufficient sleep so that they can thrive each day. The recommended amount of sleep required for a 6-13 year old is between 9-11 hours. Having a regular routine at home is immensely helpful when helping our children to go to bed and actually fall asleep at a reasonable time so that they get the full amount of sleep required. I’ve included a short section taken from Headspace’s, “Sleep and Young People: Putting the Myths to Bed”. If you want to read the full article, you can access it at https://headspace.org.au/assets/download-cards/HSP032-MythBuster-Sleep-and-Young-People-RGB-FA04.pdf .
Traffic Update
Thanks to everyone for continuing to keep our children safe when driving around the school site. The City of Salisbury Council Parking Inspectors have been in communication with Bethany Christian School. They have asked us to remind drivers to familiarize themselves with the road rules and road signs in the area as the inspectors will once again resume their patrols of school sites.
Please remember to observe the ‘Entrance’ and ‘Exit’ signs on our school site. The roundabout on Byron Bay Drive is the ‘Exit’ to the back car park. Drivers using it as an entrance risk causing an accident with those following the road rules and exiting correctly from the school site. Your support in following the road rules and using our car parks responsibly will help keep our students safe.
I wish you all a fabulous week!
God bless you,
Deb Clifford

Sibling Priority for 2023
If your child is due to start Reception with us here at Bethany Christian School in 2023 and you have not heard from our Enrolment Officer, please ensure you call the school to secure your child’s position.
Interviews to fill our 2023 Reception classes will commence in May and a secured position may not be available after this time.
Withdrawal Policy
Should you decide to transfer your children to another school, then the school requires written notification one term in advance of the withdrawal of the children. This enables the school to plan ahead with possible enrolments to replace the children. If written notification is not given, then one term’s fees will be charged.
