Bethany Christian SchoolMENU
Welcome to our final term of the year. I trust that you were able to enjoy a break from your normal routine, and are refreshed and ready for all that is to come. I had the privilege of participating in a round table discussion with the Minister of Education, the Hon Jason Clare MP, in Canberra on Monday. I was representing Independent Schools at a round table discussion providing Minister Clare with the opportunity to hear firsthand about the significant contributions Independent schooling makes for young Australians. We also were able to discuss some of the complex issues we are facing along with his priorities for education. This was a privileged opportunity to represent our school and to be a voice for our community.
At the end of last term, I was also able to finally visit our sister school in Sumatra Indonesia. Mr Dean Huntley was also able to attend and together we spent some time supporting, training, and connecting with the 40 teachers who are now working with over 700 students from ELC to Year 11. This school is in its 10th year and so seeing the changes and growth is always very encouraging. They have enjoyed being back face to face with students this year and are keen to keep learning and growing in their understanding of learning and schooling. Spending time with others face to face is so important. As we exit the restrictions of COVID and move into, "COVID normal", we are able to reconnect with one another once more.
I am very excited to let you know that we have organised an event for each year level to celebrate the year. We are calling these our “welcome back” events:
Our Receptions and Year 1’s will celebrate with a Christmas concert of Christmas carols in the Performing Arts Centre (PAC),
Year 2’s will host a Christmas Celebration in the PAC,
Year 3’s will host a poetry evening in our new nature playground,
Year 4’s will perform drama and share their arcade games in 2 locations,
Year 5’s will open their impact project businesses after school, and
Year 6’s will perform pieces of work from the year in the PAC and tour families through our 3-6 learning block.
These events will be organised by your class teachers, and they will give you the details and times along with any other information you will need. This will be a wonderful way to gather and reconnect after what has been one of our most challenging years. Most of these events are to be held in the afternoon between 3:30pm and 5pm and so it will be important that you plan ahead, as we would love for you to be there if you can. In planning these events, we have attempted to reduce the load for people and so have chosen to keep these events at times that will allow children to get home to their normal routines and not have late nights in this busy season. We are also taking care of our staff to ensure that we minimise illness which has certainly been a challenge this year. The Year 6 Graduation ceremony is our only evening event. Our Year 6 families have already received information with the details of this wonderful celebration of the end of their primary education journey.
Reception students have swimming lessons next week and our Bethany Choir has a concert for families. We have a Year 2 musical performance and Year 1 grandparents/special visitors day in week 3. In Week 4 our SRC (Student Representative Council) are planning a market day. Mini Olympics follows in week 5. As you can see, term 4 is full of numerous events and important ways that we reflect on our learning for the year. I would continue to encourage you to keep up bedtime routines to support your child to remain healthy and able to enjoy all that is to come this term.
I thank you for your support for our wonderful school and I look forward to seeing you at some of these events.
God bless,
Wendy Matear
Principal

Welcome back for term 4! I trust you all had a lovely school break and are ready for what is gearing up to be a jam-packed term!
Monday Morning Praise and Chapels
Our Monday Morning Praise (MMP) assembly is held at 10am on Monday. We have two Chapel assemblies; both are held on Wednesdays. The Primary Chapel (Years 3-6) is held 10.50am-11.30am and the Junior Primary Chapel (ELC-Year 2) is held 12.10pm-12.50pm. Parents and friends are most welcome to attend to our MMP and/or Chapels, but please be aware that during MMP, seating is limited. All visitors will need to sit in the mezzanine level in rows G-M as the first 6 rows will be taken up by our Year 4 and Year 6 classes.
During Chapel, we ask that all visitors please sit in the mezzanine level. If you have mobility issues, please speak to any of the teaching or admin staff in the Performing Arts Centre (PAC) on the day you arrive and an alternative seating arrangement can be made for you. All prams can be ‘parked’ underneath the stairs in the PAC foyer. We are very excited to see you return to participating in our MMP and Chapels.
SAPOL ‘Think U Know’
We have been extremely fortunate to secure two sessions with SAPOL who will run an age appropriate Think U Know session for our Year 3-4s on November 15th, and Year 5-6s on November 22nd. The website for ‘Think U Know’ which contains information and resources can be located at https://www.thinkuknow.org.au/ . We would highly recommend that you talk to your child after they have done their session to hear about what they have learned and to reinforce the messages of online safety. According to the Australian Centre to Counter Child Exploitation, only 50% of parents and caregivers regularly talk to their children about online safety. Our hope is that after hearing from SAPOL, we will all make it a priority to talk to our children on a regular basis about keeping safe online.
SRC Market Day
The Student Representative Council (SRC) launched their 2022 Market Day to the primary students this week in Chapel. Students in Years 3-6 are invited to take part in the SRC Market Day by planning and applying for a stall in the Market Day, being held on Thursday 10th of November. An application form can be collected from the Year 3-6 classroom teachers. All students from ELC – Year 6 will be welcome to come and purchase items from the student stall holders on Thursday 10th November. Items will be priced from 50c - $10. There is also an opportunity for students to use a ‘performance’ corner on the same day, so if they have a 3-4 minute dance or song they would like to share, they can apply for a timeslot. It was a tremendous success last year, and the SRC are thoroughly looking forward to another successful event this year.
Summer Uniform
In Terms 1 and 4, students are to wear their summer uniform. If the temperature is forecast to be a maximum temperature of 19˚C or cooler, students may wear their winter uniform. All the uniform requirements are located in your child’s diary on pages 13-15. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s teacher.
I am looking forward to all the exciting events that are planned for term 4! I pray that you and your family have a fantastic first week back to school.
God bless you,
Deb Clifford
Deputy Principal
