Bethany Christian SchoolMENU
Welcome to our first newsletter for 2025. A special welcome to our new families and those of you moving from ELC to Reception, we are glad that you have joined our learning community. We have had a very settled start regardless of the extreme heat this week and we have a sense of anticipation and hope as we learn together in 2025.
Next Wednesday, 12th February we are holding our annual ‘Meet the Teacher’ evening. We encourage you to take the opportunity to meet with your child’s class teacher. We will hold two sessions so that you can choose which works best for your family and so that you can visit two different teachers if you have more than one child at Bethany. The two sessions are identical and are at 5:30 - 6pm or 6:30 - 7pm in your child’s classroom. This is a time for you to hear from your child’s teacher about class expectations, routines, homework, and other helpful information. We look forward to seeing you there.
Sunday 9th February we are holding a Community Chapel in our Performing Arts Centre at 10am. We want to invite you to attend if you would like to join us as we come together to celebrate and ask for God's blessing on all we do in 2025. This event is hosted by Base Church. Base Church meet every Sunday here at school and you are welcome to come along with your family any Sunday at 10am.
This week, our Reception students began on Tuesday to allow for parents to enjoy and celebrate this exciting milestone with them. For the next 4 weeks, Receptions will stay home on Wednesdays to give them a rest day. They are learning so many new things and we know that rest is essential to ensure they continue to be their best at school. It was lovely to see how settled they have been in the classroom and in the yard already. First day of school photos will be available and you will receive information directly through your class teacher.
On Friday 14th February our students in Year 3, 4, 5 & 6 will participate in our Cross County event. You will receive an email directly with information including House groups. You will also be able to access a timetable for the day online as each age group run at a specific time. The cross-country track is in the Fairbanks Drive reserve and so we ask that you drop off your children and exit the school grounds as normal. You can then enter the event at the rear of the school, which removes the need for you to sign in at the office.
Please check our timetable of events which is attached to this newsletter and put those important events in your diary. It includes our Athletics Carnival for Primary students, Year 5 camp, swimming lessons for Year 3 and Year 4, and Parent Teacher Interviews.
I would like to thank you for reading our communication with you and if you need help to access either our school app or if you change your contact details, please contact the office. We have really appreciated the way you are helping to make school pick-ups as smooth and safe as possible. Once again, I thank you for your support and look forward to partnering with you this year.
Wendy Matear
Principal
Welcome back for a new school year. I trust you all had a terrific school break. It was great to observe such a settled start despite the shock of such a high temperature for the first day back. We all had an indoor lunch to escape the heat, and we are so grateful that we have lovely, air-conditioned classrooms!
You will have noticed that we have big building works well underway, making a big difference to our car parks. Thanks to everyone, the school drop off and pick up times have been safe and highly successful. The turning circle and kiss ‘n’ drop have flowed extremely well, and we thank you for working with us to keep our children safe.
A quick reminder for any new families to Bethany, that the Turning Circle from Countess Street must only be accessed by turning right into the school driveway. This means you will need to access Countess Street from Blaess Drive. There is no left turn into the school via Countess Street in peak times. Collecting a child from the front car park between the turning circles is unsafe, and this is why we ask that you only pick your child up from the Temple Turning Circle or our Turning Circle. These rules are to keep children safe.
A lot of families have organised their children to walk to a pre-planned pick-up location in the streets or parks near the school. It would be a great idea if you could communicate with your child’s teacher and let them know that your child will be walking to a set location after school. The Meet the Teacher Evening on Wednesday 12th of February would be a terrific opportunity for you to communicate where your child is collected each day with their teacher.
Please remember, that your child’s teacher is the best source of information and the way to resolve any concerns that your child encounters at school. Your child’s diary is a great form of communication between you and your child’s teacher. Alternatively, you can call the school and book a time to speak to your child’s teacher at a mutually convenient time.
We are looking forward to a great year ahead. I wish you and your family a wonderful start to the school year.
God bless you,
God bless you,
Deb Clifford
Deputy Principal
Welcome to Week 1 2025. It is wonderful to see how the students are settling in. Health care is one important aspect of wellbeing. Our students receive the care and help they need, so that students can concentrate on learning. Some of the things to remember:
Medication and Medical Conditions
The school’s Cross Country event is scheduled to happen in Week 2 Friday 14th February. If your child requires medication for the event, please provide this medication to us by Tuesday Week 2 (February 11th).
It is important to update the school with any medical condition your child has regardless of its severity. If your child suffers from any medical condition and needs medication to be administered at school, provide the school with the appropriate medication (with in expiry date) along with the management plan. The school does not administer any medication without a doctors authorization.
Remember to speak to us if you need any assistance in taking care of your children’s health care needs. Together we can develop a school health care plan to help our student’s wellbeing.
Thank you,
Priya Wilson
School Nurse
We are pleased to communicate that our Meet the Teacher evening will be held on Wednesday 12th February, Week 2.
Teachers will facilitate two sessions on the night.
The first session will start at 5.30pm, finishing at 6pm with the second session commencing at 6.30pm and finish at 7pm.
Please choose only one session to attend as both session will be identical. Please arrive on time to park. Be aware that you do not need to book.
If you have 2 children, you will be able to attend both sessions in the different classes. This is a time for you to hear from your child’s teacher about class expectations, routines, homework, and other helpful information.
If you have any questions about the evening, please contact the front office on 8283 0000.
We look forward to seeing you there.
Sibling Priority for 2027
If your younger child is due to start Reception with us here at Bethany Christian School in 2027, please ensure you call the school and speak to the Enrolment Officer to secure your child’s position. Interviews to fill our 2027 Reception classes will commence soon and a secured position may not be available after this time.
Withdrawal Policy
Should you decide to transfer your children to another school, then the school requires written notification one term in advance of the withdrawal of your children. This enables the school to plan ahead with possible enrolments to replace your children. If written notification is not given, then one term’s fees will be charged as per the Withdrawal Policy which is signed at the time of enrolment.
Bronnie Lyrtzis
Enrolment Officer
Lunch
Please remember that our Wellbeing Team run a Sandwich Bar at lunch times. If your child forgets to pack their lunch they will be provided with a sandwich from the Sandwich Bar. We would prefer students use this facility rather than having parents drop off lunch for students. This is a free service sponsored by Foodbank.
Early Pick Ups
If you are going to collect your child early from school for an appointment or family reasons, we kindly ask that you provide us with plenty of notice. This way we can email the classroom teacher and they can plan to have your child ready on time.
Absentees
When notifying the school of your child's absence, the best way is via the Bethany Christian School app. If you are unsure of how to do this, please contact us at the front office and we will help you.
Messages for students
If you need to have a message passed onto a student, again we ask that you provide us with as much notice as possible. If you call after 2.30pm, we cannot guarantee that the message will be passed on to the student.
Bethany Christian School’s Inter-House Cross Country Carnival is fast approaching and will be held on:
Friday 14th February | Week 2, Term 1 (with Friday 21st as the back up date)
Shadarch, Meshach and Abednego will battle it out to see which house can tally the most points to win the House Shield, so make sure you are there!
The Cross Country program generally runs from 9.00 - 1.00pm, and we would love you to come and watch your child walk, jog or run the event.
Depending upon the year they were born in they will be in the following age group:
While giving everyone a chance to participate, we use this as a gauge to help select our SAPSASA and SACSA Cross Country squads, so those students who wish to be selected will need to try their best at this event.
This year we will be using Event Strategies to provide real time data for all participants.
More information will be updated on the Sports Events Page as we get closer to the event.
