BCS Parent Updates

PARENT UPDATE 26th Feb 2021

Dear Parents/Caregivers,

Thank you for your willingness to work with us by following social distancing measures. We have kept a close watch on the numbers of adults entering the school yard and I am pleased to let you know that we are able to remove the need for you to wear a mask as of Monday 1st March. We will let you know once classrooms are accessible.

The reason for the change is that our students have settled very well and can be dropped off or picked up without as much adult support. This means that there are now less adults gathering and moving within the grounds. You are welcome to enter the school yard before and after school and we ask that you do your best to maintain the 1.5m distance with other adults. We are looking forward to seeing your smiles after this different start. We will continue to walk students to the front and rear pick up points at the end of each day to help to reduce the number of adults required on site.

Please follow these guidelines:

  • Continue to use QR code or Paper equivalent when entering school yard
  • Students are to stay at home if showing signs of illness
  • Parents can now enter school yard without face masks with 1.5m distancing
  • Classrooms are still closed to parents until further notice
  • Once gates are locked all parents are to come through school office and sign in
  • Uniform shop still available via appointment during open hours
  • OSHC drop off and pickup from the OSHC door as of Monday 1st March

We will continue to keep you updated as circumstances change, and we thank you for your ongoing support.

Kind regards,

Wendy Matear

PARENT UPDATE 28th Jan 2021

Dear Parents/Caregivers,

Welcome to 2021 at Bethany Christian School. I trust that you have enjoyed some family time over Christmas and the New Year and are feeling refreshed. We begin with hope for a great year and although we will find ourselves unable to predict all that will transpire, we continue to trust God’s provision for His wisdom to lead us. We also continue to follow advice regarding the health and wellbeing of our community and so we will outline our current requirements as your child begins the school year.

Our Reception students begin school on Tuesday 2nd February giving them the opportunity to have their own start apart from the rest of the school. This will enable a more settled start for them.

Our Year 1, Year 2, Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 students all begin on Monday 1st February at 8:40am. You will have two options to either drop off your child or use a QR Code to enter the school yard with your child. To enter, we also ask that you wear a mask as we are unable to ensure a 2m2 distance between adults in the yard. Classrooms will not be open for parents or caregivers. We ask that you scan the QR Code(or use the paper provided) at the gate to give your details for contact tracing purposes, only if you want to enter. You will also be required to fit a mask as you enter the school yard. If you would prefer not to enter, we will have staff available to help your child to enter and go to the appropriate space for a settled start. Students are familiar with this process and last year we were continually reminded of how well your children managed to develop confidence and independence as they were required to self-manage being dropped off at the gate.

Please remember that if you choose to enter the yard, it will take a bit longer, so allow a few extra minutes in the morning. We are awaiting the SA Gov QR Code to be distributed by the Department for Education, and in the meantime have our own QR Code to ensure we have accurate contact tracing information. Temple Christian College is also starting on Monday so the carpark will be very busy. It would be wise to plan to park and walk from a bit further away if you are able. Thank you for your patience and for following these new requirements as we begin a new year. It is wonderful to have a community that is considerate of others and will put in the extra effort to ensure we all stay safe and well.

You also may have seen some information about the Fruit Fly outbreak in Metropolitan Adelaide. I have included a link to the fact sheet for you to look at and ask that you consider sending alternatives to school if you are bringing them in from a suspended area. The list of fruit and vegetables is quite extensive and you will need to think about what you can pack for your child to eat. I would also like to encourage you to think about less packaging which becomes rubbish to be taken to landfill. Where you are able to use containers rather than plastics why not use these as an option.

Thank you to the many families who have already signed up to the ‘FACTS family portal’. Please remember that it is essential that you sign up to the portal to access your school fees for 2021. You have previously received 2 emails outlining the process. If you have further questions please email or call the office and ask for a member of the finance team.

We will continue to communicate with you via notifications on our Bethany app. Last year we used the Bethany app for school wide and sports notifications, this year we will also have notifications from classroom and year level teachers as we move towards less wastage of paper. We encourage you to download this app on your smartphone and turn on notifications to ensure that you receive our information in a timely manner. (open Bethany app > settings > notifications > turn on all three options)

I thank you for your help with this and look forward to all that 2021 will bring as we learn together.

God bless
Wendy Matear
